This is a role that will work with the Clinical Information Team and Site BI Team to be the lead clinical information analyst. The Cerner Electronic patient record has been developed over the past year to improve the capture of structured clinical data. The post holder will work with the team to develop reports to ensure that clinical information is been collected correctly and acted on appropriately. The development is based on creating and establishing flat tables in data warehouse to developed dashboards using data analytics tools…

This will be linked to other clinical data to measure the impact on patient pathways. The aim will be reduce variation and inefficiencies in patient care, thus improving experience and outcomes.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medicines Information (MI) department, based at Guy’s Hospital, is one of the busiest in the country and employs approximately 20 staff (including Clinical Governance and Formulary). In addition, at any one time, there are up to 8 trainee and junior pharmacists rotating through MI as part of their training programme.

The teams provide an enquiry answering service to:
• Healthcare professionals working at Guy’s hospital, St. Thomas’ Hospital, Evelina Children’s Hospital, King’s College Hospital and The Princess Royal University Hospital.
• Health care professionals working in community services and primary care
• Patients via our dedicated patient ‘Medicines Helpline’
• Primary care healthcare professionals via the Medicines Helpline

The team also undertakes pro-active work and contributes to local, regional and national MI outputs. It is one of the national centres commissioned to provide medicines advice for primary care as part of the Specialist Pharmacy Services (SPS).
• Work as part of a high-performing team to provide medicines information and advice within Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust and to other service users in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Clinical Enquiry Answering

Provide clinical medicines advice to a range of healthcare professionals. This involves:
• Receiving and recording complex questions frequently related to patient care, clarifying the clinical problem to be addressed.
• Defining a search strategy in order to inform the response and researching the answer. This may sometimes involve the use of the individual pharmacist’s professional knowledge and expertise.
• Evaluating the information retrieved and making a judgement, often where there is conflicting advice.

• Delivering the answer in an accurate, timely and helpful manner tailored to the individual healthcare professional’s needs and route of communication.

Clinical Governance

Pharmacy Clinical Services
• To provide a clinical ward pharmacy service to promote safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines in patients.

• To establish good working relationships at ward level and pro-actively contribute to activities that will help to improve patient experience.

The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week), and will have a team-building focus. The post holder will need to have a solid understanding of cancer care and be able to manage patient queries through a drop-in, phone and email service.They will carry out nursing and information assessments and will require excellent communication skills plus holistic assessment skills. They will have a good knowledge of support services available to cancer patients, both within and outside the Trust and be able to signpost and refer patients according to their needs.The role is based at Guy’s Cancer Centre and you will be expected to work at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup to be involved in meetings and training and demonstrating leadership on both sites.

Dimbleby Cancer Care is an information and support service based at Guy’s Cancer Centre, London and at Guy’s Cancer at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup. It provides cancer information, psychological support, benefits advice and complementary therapies to patients and carers. The service operates Monday to Friday.



Organisational and Information Management



§ To work autonomously in the information drop-in centre conducting holistic assessment/triage of patients and significant others to identify their information and support needs.

§ Provide specialist advice and/or information from appropriate and up to date resources.

§ Signpost and/or refer to other Health Care Professionals (HCPs)/organisations when necessary.

§ Liaise with HCPs, medical teams, clinical nurse specialists and other Dimbleby Cancer Care teams when necessary.

Education



§ Assist with oncology and haematology services induction programme for Health Care Professionals (HCP).

§ Attend and present at health and well-being events and educational programmes run by specific tumour groups to promote Dimbleby Cancer Care services.

§ Act as a specialist resource on cancer management and support services for HCPs.

§ Assess own educational needs and take steps to keep up to date with clinical and nursing developments in line with requirements of the Nursing & Midwifery Council.

§ Contribute to the Trust’s clinical supervision programme for staff

§ Ensure that appropriate written induction programmes are available and utilised for all new staff within the department







Research and Development



§ Promote and undertake nursing research and publish the outcome, updating own knowledge to promote excellence in clinical practice.

§ Utilise research findings in the delivery of specialist patient care, developing new ways of working and disseminate relevant information to staff.



§ Lead and contribute to audit and research within the specialty in collaboration with colleagues, developing action plans and disseminating information.

Management, Leadership and Service Development

We are looking to recruit a compassionate and motivated band 6 nurse to join our Cancer Information team in Dimbleby Cancer Care. This is an exciting development opportunity for someone who is interested in working within a multi-professional service delivering holistic person-centred care.

You will be expected to act as an independent clinical resource for patients, carers and other healthcare professionals who are supporting people with cancer. You will need to have a solid understanding of cancer care and have a good knowledge of support services available to cancer patients. This is a direct patient facing role, offering support through our walk-in service, and via phone and email, at our site in Guy’s Cancer Centre and at our support centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup.

The service provides advice on emotional, family, financial and practical concerns. The team oversees the Cancer Information Centre at Guys Cancer Centre and Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup.

The post holder will have regular and frequent contact with Dimbleby Cancer Care staff and volunteers, service and general managers, tumour specific clinical nurse specialists, clinical and medical oncology clinicians and staff, therapy radiographers, ward staff and others treating cancer patients within the Trust.
