This is an exciting opportunity for a senior mental health practitioner to join the Fylde Coast Home Treatment Team.

The Fylde Coast Home Treatment Team provides 24 hour support to service users who are suffering from mental health concerns that would otherwise require admission to an acute in patient environment. There is a strong focus on a recovery model and effective risk management to provide high quality care in a community setting.

We have a well-established TAVI team comprising Cardiologists (Drs Abdelaziz, Choudhury, Gamal, More, Roberts and Wiper), cardiac surgeons (Mr Raimondo), cardiac anesthetists, TAVI nurses, TAVI coordinator. We have a robust and well-established MDT process for discussion of potential TAVI patients, and we are in the process of streamlining our referral process.

The Haematology department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Biomedical Scientist or registered Clinical Scientist to work within our friendly, hard-working team. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your knowledge and experience to the team and to learn new skills in an interesting and challenging role

The successful candidate will have significant post registration experience in haematology and coagulation, as well as a completed IBMS specialist portfolio and an MSc (or equivalent) in a related subject .

Reporting to the Haematology Laboratory Manager, you will be working with the other senior staff in Haematology to ensure the smooth running and high-quality output of the service. The post holder will have specific lead responsibility for coagulation and departmental audit.
• Part of the senior team responsible for the day-to-day running of the laboratory
• Training of BMS and MLA staff in accordance with departmental SOPs
• Write and update SOPs relevant to your section
• Verification, testing and training for new equipment
• Ensuring ongoing staff competency assessment and CPD
• Ensuring timely and accurate processing of patient samples
• Maintaining and controlling analysers, including trouble shooting, reporting faults and liaising with engineers
• Taking a lead on departmental audits including scheduling and completion
• Quality tasks including document control, IQC/EQA, pre-acceptance testing, measurement of uncertainty, gathering data for statistical analysis e.g. KPI monitoring
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the quality management system to ensure accreditation to ISO15189:2022

A significant equipment refresh is imminent, and the post holder will be required to assist with verification, updating documentation and training staff in the use of the new equipment.

We are looking to recruit a forward thinking and enthusiastic individual to join our small but busy pharmacy purchasing, invoicing & Homecare team.

Your duties will include:
• The purchasing and receipt of all medicines on behalf of the Trust and external customers
• Manual and electronic processing of all pharmaceutical invoices and payment claims
• The ordering, receipt and invoicing of Homecare medicines in line with national standards
• Dealing with queries relating to all purchasing and invoicing issues
• Working in accordance with the Pharmacy’s wholesale dealers and home office licences
• Ensuring medicines are procured in line with the Department of Health and the Trusts strategies
• Occasional cover of goods receipt area which may involve prolonged standing and heavy lifting
• Ordering and invoicing of all Homecare medicines for the Trust

Excellent numeracy, literacy and IT skills, as well as previous experience of working in either a busy finance, procurement or pharmacy environment are all essential for this role.

This role requires attention to detail and strong communication skills to ensure all medicines for the Trust are procured, received and invoiced correctly and on time.

It is a challenging but rewarding role which requires someone that has the ability to work in a pressurized environment, using their own initiative and is able to meet deadlines.

Candidates who are invited to interview will be required to carry out a basic numeracy and literacy skills test.



The Pharmacy Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals consists of over 140 members of staff. We provide a wide range of services including clinical support at ward level, a dispensary service, aseptic services, medicines procurement, clinical trials, medicines information and much more.

Key Responsibilities

Produces, agrees, and oversees delivery of highly complex risk-based digital
plans with allocated clients/assignments that are designed to produce sufficient assurances to fulfil the requirements of the Head of Internal Audit Opinion on the effectiveness of internal control.
• Actively identifies, defines, and delivers/oversees the highly complex advisory assignments and services specific to the needs of clients with a view to increasing and securing income from such activities.
• Manages the planning, conduct, output and opinions for highly complex digital assurance, consultancy, and services for allocated clients/assignments within agreed deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Operates as budget holder for allocated advisory assignments and services i.e., a discrete set of services, requiring the planning and organizing of complex activities and programmes, often extending over multiple years,to ensure income is recovered, costs contained and outputs delivered. Often these budgeted plans need to be adjusted on an ongoing basis for reporting to Audit Committees as priorities shift.
• Manages and develops the key relationships with allocated clients, particularly the Chief Information/Digital Officer, Chief Clinical Information Officer, Chief Nursing Information Officer, Senior Information Risk Owner, Data Protection Officer, Caldicott Guardian as well as other senior digital staff.

• Undertakes highly complex systems reviews that conclude upon the effective management of digital risk.
