This position serves as the Supervisory Healthcare Engineer (Deputy) for the Engineering Service as the full alter ego of the Chief with responsibility for the professional Engineering programs such as Maintenance and Repair, Utility Plant Operations, Energy Management and Conservation Program, Safety, Fire Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Preparedness, Green Environmental Management, Vehicle Fleet, Grounds, Capital Planning, and Construction Project Management section at a multi-faceted and affiliated VA Medical Center, including outlying Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

Some of the duties include but are not limited to;

• Develops and manages a complex, professional, and highly technical program.
• Acts as staff professional consultant and advisor on engineering and environmental matters to top management, high level medical and administrative staff along with VISN management.
• Responsible for the following programs: budget, projects, cost estimates, operational programs, and preventive maintenance.
• Responsible for personnel issues such as performance appraisals and discipline.
• Ensures all assignments are completed in accordance with VA Manuals Medical Center policies and safe practice.
• Participates in formulating changes in staffing patterns and organization structure within the service.
• Participates in the selection of applicants for vacant positions and candidates for promotion. Initiate performance awards and commendations.
• Works independently while applying professional engineering knowledge, training experience, and judgment to solve the wide variety of technical and management problems arising in a highly active and extremely complex medical center.

The Estates Hard FM Team is responsible for the day to day repairs, PPM and operational testing for a wide range of building services and equipment located in the Trust.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and flexible Maintenance Mechanical Craftsperson to join our multi-Skilled Estates team at Mile End Hospital site providing operational maintenance services throughout the Trust and its associated properties and sites.

You will be a keen team member with a recognised building services mechanical/ plumbing apprenticeship or equivalent and have post qualification experience with in a complex building services environment. Duties will include statutory maintenance works as instructed to ensure compliance with current HTM’s, Water Regulations, ACOP’s and Trust policies.

To undertake duties of a Competent Person (CP) in accordance with the relevant NHS HTM Guidance. To maintain and repair cold & hot water systems & plant including calorifiers, water tanks, plate heat exchangers , air handling plant etc..

Building Services Engineer

As a Building Services Engineer at our Islington club, you'll hold an electrical qualification (to 17th edition or equivalent) and a good knowledge of Building Management systems. You also have experience of emergency lighting testing, PAT, water hygiene and other compliance areas in a large industrial unit.

As a Building Services Engineer, you will:

• Be responsible for the whole site - from the building shell to surrounding grounds

• Maintain everything from our spa pools to our mechanical plant, air conditioning, heating and ventilation

• Ensure all queries and issues are dealt with securely and effectively, using an electronic CAFM system

• Inspire the team to strive for constant improvement, thanks to the way you lead by example

• Use your hands-on experience and technical skills to operate an effective preventative maintenance programme

• Improve your own skills and those of others to help build the strongest possible team around you
