This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM),Gulf of Mexico OCS Region (GOMR), Resource Evaluation (RE), Resource Studies Section in Jefferson, LA.
At the full performance level (GS-14) the major duties of this position may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for providing work assignments to unit professionals spreading the assignments in a fair and equitable manner. Identifies unit project objectives and oversees project plans and performance measures to ensure tasks are completed timely and meet BOEM Strategic Plans and Mission objectives.
- Ensures timely performance of work of a satisfactory amount and quality, as well as reviewing, accepting, amending, or rejecting the work performed.
- The employee conducts human capital management responsibilities (such as staffing and recruitment, employee development, performance management, and employee conduct) consistent with the Merit Systems Principles, and other relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines. The employee assigns work in a fair and effective manner that ensures that direct reports maintain a full workload with a complexity commensurate with their grade levels.
- The incumbent supervises the analysis and interpretation of geological, geophysical, petrophysical and engineering data that often have significant impact on science priorities for the Bureau/Office and/or Department. Responsibilities may involve, but are not limited to:
- Supervises and leads the systematic preparation of detailed geologic and stratigraphic interpretation, maps and cross sections for each of the fields and lease discoveries. Interpretation includes analysis of geophysical and well data resulting in the preparation of seismic stratigraphic and systems tract interpretations, salt tectonics, well log analysis, and other exploration studies to determine the stratigraphic relationships and depositional environments of prospective reservoirs.
- Supervises the performance of field and reservoir analyses conducted by classical engineering methods to ensure the reserve adequacy of reservoirs and fields. The Supervisor ensures that every reservoir and field within his/her area of responsibility is properly classified based on the alignment to the industry standard of AAPG/SPE/WPC Petroleum Resources Management System.
- Oversees the implementation of a Carbon Sequestration and Storage (CCS) program in the Office of Resource Evaluation; conducts systematic reviews of carbon storage units including storage assessment, site characterization, CO2 plume modeling and monitoring, and determination of plume stability.
- Supervises Worst Case Discharge (WCD) verification workload responsibilities including initiating, reviewing, and approving the validity of the assumptions, analogs, and calculations associated with the verification of the WCD submitted by operators for Exploration Plans (30 CFR 250.219(a)(2)(iv)), Development Plans (30 CFR 250.250(a)(2)(iv)) and Oil Spill Response Plans (30 CFR 254.47). Makes assignments of WCD projects and ensures consistency of the verifications.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
Salary Information GS-14 Step 1 $141,251 to Step 10 $183,582 per annum.
First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.
