Training Instruction and Program Administration duties include but not limited to:
- Using adult learning principles, the incumbent serves as trainer/instructor for educational covering diverse topics, such as leadership development, supervisory skills training, effective communication, critical thinking, transformational leadership, conflict management, and prevention and management of disruptive behavior.
- Develops programs and activities which use the latest technological advances to deliver training on a just in time" basis. Participates in all phases of planning, developing, implementing, and administering a training program which is responsive to immediate and long-range needs and goals of the VA. Assist in the development of instructional objectives and evaluation for each activity. Activities are in support of employees performing work in managerial, supervisor, professional, technical, administrative, clerical, and skilled craft positions. Initiates and participates in a wide variety of pilot training programs and develops tests innovative approaches to learning prior to implementation facility wide.
- Follows up on training to determine successful completion of courses. Maintains training course attendance records and ensures completion of training is properly record in the Talent Management System (TMS) as a TMS Administrator Provides management with periodic reports on the status of training and capacity of the training program to achieve management objectives and policies.
- Develops and records the methodology for the training programs given at the medical center, paying special attention to the generalizability of these efforts to other VAMCs and disseminates these finding to other VAMCs indicating an interest in undertaking similar activities. Acts as a consultant, when requested to do so, at other VAMCs for education and training program development and implementation.
- Reviews, and implements programmatic changes based upon VA's published policies on staff and organizational development and as necessary assists with developing new local policies to ensure compliance with Federal regulations and to best practices in staff and organizational development and training.
- Participates in VACO mandated trainings including train-the-trainer opportunities with responsibility of coordinating facility-wide rollouts to include promotion, facilitation and tracking of participation.
Work Schedule: 4 10-hr shifts (Tuesday-Friday)

Physical Requirements: Work is usually performed sitting at a desk, in conferences and meetings, or standing for several hours at a time in classroom presentations. This position will include occasionally training groups of people in several types of moderately strenuous physical skills that include balance, extending and raising arms, pivoting on one foot, and deep leg lunges. The Training Specialist must have physical stamina and full range of motion to demonstrate and coach movement. Teaching face to face classes will be required for this position.
