MAJOR DUTIES:

• The primary duties of this position are to perform laborer duties on buildings, structures, grounds, boundary fence, roads and trails while utilizing required personal safety equipment (eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, safety vests, etc.).
• Incumbent frequently lifts, carries and moves materials and supplies for long distances weighing 60 pounds and sometimes up to 100 pounds with assistance. Works on park fences digging post holes, carrying woven wire, steel posts, fencing material and tools. Loads, unloads fence supplies, heavy boxes, bulky supplies, trash, furniture and construction materials from trucks.
• Pulls weeds, trims shrubs, mows, waters and rakes lawns. Scrubs, strips, waxes, dusts, mops and scour lavatories, stools, urinals. Vacuums and shampoos carpets, changes building and trail lights, picks up litter, empties waste baskets, recycle bins, trash containers, sweeps and cleans steps, walkways and trails.
• Duties are sometimes performed while working from ladders or scaffolding. Work is performed both inside and outside during extreme weather conditions often dealing with the visiting public in highly congested areas. Selectee may work with higher graded employees on building maintenance and road repair projects when the need arises.

This service in Horwich is a Registered Care Home that currently supports four people with profound & multiple learning disabilities. The property is located in the Horwich district of Bolton, where there are plenty shops, post office, cafes and supermarket.
The property is ground floor level and comprises a communal lounge, dining room, kitchen, shower room, bathroom & WC. The people who live there have their own bedrooms, decorated & furnished to reflect their choices and taste.
There is also a staff office / sleep room. Along with a utility room and small rear garden area with access to the rear of the property. The Service is owned by Irwell Valley Housing Association, a registered social landlord, who ensures the property is maintained appropriately.
The Service currently supports four people, three females and one gentleman.
One lady enjoys going bowling, going to social clubs and to Blackpool. One lady likes to watch TV, particularly older films and comedies. She also enjoys listening to relaxing music and a peaceful environment. This lady likes to go out with staff in her vehicle, and having a meal out whilst people watching, she likes outdoor places in summer. She doesn’t like crowded places. She enjoys aromatherapy and pamper sessions. This lady likes to spend time in her room for periods during the day.
Our next lady prefers the home environment, she will have a trip to the local shop, but doesn’t like to venture further. She likes to help with her laundry and enjoys watching staff when doing her ironing.
The gentleman we support likes to go to the cinema, shopping with staff and travelling on buses and trains and out in his car. He likes films, particularly the action movies. He also likes listening to music, particularly 80s and 90s music. This gentleman also likes to spend time in his room for periods during the day.
Three of the people we support are non verbal and communicate in their own way with vocal sounds and gestures. One person is verbal but has a limited vocabulary.
The people we support all have high medical needs, we support with epilepsy, PEG / JEJ support, catheter care, medication, mobility, moving and handling, and support with eating and drinking.
What we are looking for:
· A genuine passion for supporting others.
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
· Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
· A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
Ideally this role requires you to be a driver.

All our services are 24hr care. We prepare the rotas at least 4 weeks in advance so you can still plan your personal and social life!

Provides assistance to the Cook and Cook Supervisor regarding food preparation by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading; weighs, measures and assembles ingredients for regular and special dietary menu items. On a regular basis, prepares uncooked food items. Using correct measuring utensils and/or portion control scales, portions foods IAW USDA Food Program for distribution and meal service, and covers, dates and stores leftovers according to established procedures.

4. Ensures kitchens are adequately stocked and equipped with the necessary food and equipment. Informs supervisor if ingredients for menu items are not available to allow adequate time for items to be procured for use.

5. Prepares baby formula, in compliance with USDA food requirements for children ages 6 weeks to 11 months. Ensures correct proportions, as governed by the USDA food programs, are provided at the center(s) on a daily basis. Receives and inventory food deliveries. Ensures that all food is of top quality and freshness before receiving and/or preparation.

6. In the absence of the Cook, may perform a variety of cooking tasks with direct supervision and direction. Follows posted USDA approved menus. If changes are necessary, notifies supervisor prior to making the change. Follows standardized recipes in preparing meals for the CDC.

7. Ensures compliance with standards as set by the USDA Food Program, base Public Health, and Safety and meets all DoD standards for Food Health & Safety.

8. Incumbent is responsible for independently completing work as scheduled after initial oral or written instructions when changes or new assignments are made. Supervisor periodically checks to see that work is done on time and according to instructions.

Physical Effort: Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment.

Working Conditions: Uncomfortably high temperature and humidity are created by steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing. Area is usually noisy and there is a danger of slipping on wet floors where food or beverage has been dropped. Exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezer units.

• Serve as Army Community Service (ACS) multi-functional specialist with professional and technical responsibility for assisting Commanders with assessing, tailoring and prioritizing ACS service delivery in support of local military and family needs.
