The CIBC Summer Internship Program is designed to offer great work experience to complement students’ classroom training and career goals. CIBC’s Commercial Real Estate team is seeking a highly motivated intern for the 2024 summer with an interest in pursuing a career in commercial real estate or commercial banking. This position will work closely with all team members including relationship managers, asset managers, and other functional areas on a range of projects to support CIBC Bank USA’s multi-billion dollar national portfolio of commercial real estate loans. The intern will gain hands-on experience in the Commercial Real Estate lending business through exposure to a wide range of team members and projects, and the opportunity to work on live deals alongside experienced Commercial Real Estate Lenders. 

What You’ll Be Doing

• Support various projects for the Commercial Real Estate Lending group.
• Assist in underwriting of live transactions. This may include market research, completing comparable transaction analyses, and Sponsor due diligence. 
• Preparation of internal memos and approval documents alongside relationship managers. 
• Perform market research and financial research regarding real estate transactions, supply, demand, and market trends. 
• Assist with collecting and organizing various data to support portfolio-wide analyses. 
• Special projects related to strategic initiatives to be determined based on needs of team at time of internship. 

Who You Are

• Undergraduate major in Real Estate, Finance, Accounting, Economics or similar 
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 
• Rising seniors/current undergraduate students
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Excellent analytical and communication skills 
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and time-sensitive deliverables with a high degree of quality and accuracy. 
• Strong organizational skills, work ethic, team-approach, and detail-orientation required.
• Demonstrated interested in commercial real estate or banking through previous coursework, extracurricular involvement, or work/internship experience to be given additional consideration
• To be eligible for this program, you must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis
• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree, with an expected graduation date between December 2024 and June 2025

This is a three to four month assignment where you will assist a Project Team with the management, field construction activities and documentation of a project.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Communicate with Foremen and Superintendent to learn about field construction operations and to provide support.

• Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors, & the local community.

• Assist with the Project Environmental, Health, Safety requirements.

• Assist the Project Engineer with approving time cards in HeavyJob. Ensure all equipment and employees are accounted for on timecards.

• Assist with verifying quantities in FIS (Field Information Systems) and log quantities for cost and revenue tracking.

• Assist the Project Engineer with generating and distributing daily cost reports (trucking, labor, equipment) to the Project Manager, Foreman & Superintendent.

• Assist with the completion of daily reports documenting both Granite Construction and Subcontractor activities.

• Place necessary material orders, survey requests, locates, etc.

• Maintain a to-do list and diary.

• Assist with the calculations of yields of materials used such as concrete, aggregate base & asphalt.

• Tour jobsite daily with the Project Manager or Engineer to verify quantities claimed are correct and to stay current on overall job progress.

• Additional responsibilities as needed. 

Education

• High School diploma required and a minimum of 2 (two) years of education from an accredited institution of higher learning such as a college or university

Field of Study

• Civil Engineering or Construction Management

Work Experience

• Previous construction experience is a plus

About Granite Construction Incorporated

Job Description

DPR Construction is seeking interns for our Build Up High School Internship in Construction Management. Tool belts not required! Interns will work in the job trailer, side-by-side with a project team building a major commercial construction project. Interns will learn about managing a multi-million-dollar project, the innovative technology used for planning, scheduling and design, and the wide range of professional roles needed to build great buildings.

Working with a team of mentors, interns will spend 35-40 hours a week on an active construction jobsite, assisting with important project functions including subcontractor coordination, document control, quality inspections, schedule updates, safety training, and site plan updates.

Build Up interns will be paid on an hourly basis.

Exact role will vary based on assigned project. The interns will work closely with members of the project team and will be responsible for participating in the following tasks:

• Be responsible for a range of entry-level construction management assignments, working both alongside mentors and independently.
• Gain experience setting career and education-related goals, exploring them through mentoring and jobsite assignments, and reflecting on findings through an 8-week Capstone project.
• Develop presentation skills that will prepare them for future educational and career pursuits, as well as increase confidence in their abilities and leadership capacity.
• Gain experience communicating, asking questions, receiving feedback, and navigating as a team member in an adult, professional environment.

To achieve this goal, DPR will:

• Cultivate a fuller understanding of the scope of challenging career opportunities in the construction field.
