• Ensuring treatment plans develop all CAT/Recreation Therapists to promote the goals of the program in which each Veteran is participating
• Developing and implementing recreation therapy-creative arts programs
• Keeping abreast of current scientific, technological, theoretical and treatment modality changes, as well as management theory relating to the provision of recreation therapy
• Developing and implementing recreation therapy programs using principles of evidenced-based practice to establish and/or improve recreation therapy guidelines

• Responsible for the overall supervision of the employees assigned to the Wellbeing/RT section
• Actively recruiting potential candidates, interviewing applicants and coordinating in the selection process with Human Resources, selecting best candidates, orienting new employees, creating employee performance standards, completing semi­annual/annual performance appraisals, recommending performance awards/promotions, and training
• Recommending and initiating counseling and disciplinary actions for subordinates, as guided by Human Resources Management, Union contracts and Recreation policies
• Responsible for conducting an evaluation of the competency of each staff member to assure he/she possesses the necessary skills to successfully complete assigned duties
• Developing position descriptions or functional statements and determining the level of competency necessary to meet mandatory job requirements

• Analyzing current use and projects needs for formulation of the annual service budget estimating operating requirements including staffing, equipment, supplies, and services
• Maintaining RT fund-control point and general post accounts as an approving official, as specified in policy

• Assisting in the development of the performance improvement program to continually monitor therapy functions of WH & HS staff for quality and appropriateness of CAT/recreation therapy
• Assuring the well being/recreation therapy program is in compliance with applicable standards established by OSHA, VHA, JC, CARF and other reviewing agencies

• Overseeing a continuing staff development program for therapists and therapy assistants
• May serve as a mentor or preceptor for any creative arts/recreation therapy student

• Patient Care Coordination:

  • Facilitate seamless healthcare transitions from Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) to VA facilities.
  • Provide consultation on complex discharge planning and care coordination.
  • Assess psychosocial and medical needs of Service members, Veterans, and their families.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with MTF and VA teams.
  • Educate patients and families on VA health benefits and resources.

• Interagency Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with MTF staff, including social workers, nurses, and case managers.
  • Coordinate with VA Enrollment Coordinators and Military-to-VA (M2VA) teams for patient registration and referral processing.
  • Communicate with Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) staff and other federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Serve as the VA representative at MTFs, facilitating information exchange and building relationships.

• Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Document activities in VA systems, including the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and Federal Case Management Tool (FCMT).
  • Manage the VA Liaison initiative and ensure program effectiveness.
  • Identify and address gaps in the transition system, recommending improvements.
  • Provide reports, briefs, and presentations to VA, DoD, Congressional staff, and community organizations.

• Program Development and Evaluation:

  • Develop and evaluate policies and programs to improve the transition of care process.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on transition policies and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance program outcomes and compliance with standards.

• Professional Standards and Ethics:

  • Address ethical concerns and adhere to professional codes of ethics.
  • Provide guidance on ethical issues affecting patients, families, and staff.

• Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to VA, DoD, and national healthcare policies, including The Joint Commission (TJC) and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards.

• Communication and Reporting:

  • Report patient-level referral and outcome data to national program managers.

Working closely with cross-functional teams in both our business and technical areas the Associate IT Process Design & Government Analyst Intern may be responsible for conducting process open mic and jam sessions, assisting with process central operations, creating process documentation, contributing to process knowledge base, and evaluating metrics and continuous improvement ideas/options across all channels from CoE's.
