We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, efficient team player to work within the Children’s Emergency Department and the Paediatric Assessment Unit as an administrator / Ward Clerk.
The successful candidate will work full time (37.5 hours per week), Monday-Friday, and will carry out administrative tasks relating to the smooth and efficient running of the Children’s Emergency Department and the Paediatric Assessment Unit with the occasional need to provide cover to the Children’s ward as and when necessary.
• Assist nurse in charge in tracking progress of patient through the department on Patient Centre.
• Provide a professional, friendly and efficient reception service to all patients and their families.
• Answer telephone enquiries, taking appropriate measures and ensuring these are communicated to the appropriate staff, accurately, politely and in a timely manner, using discretion and confidentiality at all times.
• Direct and assist patients and others who come to the reception desk with queries in a courteous manner at all times.
• Assist the clinical staff in ensuring the reception and administration areas are kept neat and tidy and that any hazards or faults are appropriately reported.
• Send GP letters and deal with GP requests asking for information about their patients (point of contact for GPs).
• Respond appropriately to the unpredictable nature of activity, prioritising workload as appropriate.
• Assist in the prevention of accidents on the unit by reporting accidents / untoward incidents to the Senior Sister / Nurse in Charge.
• Reporting to the Senior Sister / Nurse in Charge any complaints made by the patients and/or relatives.
• To recognise a clinical emergency and know how to respond in a positive manner.
• To promote infection control within the clinical environment, challenging behaviours that do not follow Trust policy or guidelines.

• Register and record patient details and admit them onto the relevant computer systems, ensuring that accuracy and confidentiality are maintained. Identify and include any missing data items such as NHS numbers, GP and ethnicity, using Summary Care Records and other appropriate sources.
• Organise the administration of the admission of patients to other clinical areas using the patient administration system.
• Ensure appropriate notes are photocopied as requested by nursing staff for patients requiring transfer to other clinical areas or external hospitals.
• Provide administrative support to the nursing/medical staff, carrying out general tasks such as photocopying notes, booking transport.
• Maintain the department’s registration and filing system.
• Observe confidentiality and adhere to the Trust’s Information Governance policy at all times.
• Print a casualty card, ID labels and wrist band for emergency patients presenting to CED resuscitation area.
• Check NHS numbers for every patient booked into the department on the NHS spine.
