An opportunity has arisen at Salford Royal Hospital for the appointment of a Locum Consultant Upper GI Surgeon. The successful candidate will join an established team 11 Upper GI / Bariatric Surgeons.

It is proposed that the appointees will provide 10 PAs per week (which will include outpatient clinics, operating theatre lists, and administration). The job plan will be a flexible job plan.

All Consultants will be allocated 1 core SPA per week for professional development (CPD), Job Planning, Appraisal, Mandatory Training, attendance at regular team meetings which will have a clinical governance aspect and participating in Audit.

Additional SPA time will be made available to consultants on the basis of evidenced need. Such allocation will be agreed and subsequently reviewed.

The appointee will be expected to participate fully in the provision of District General Hospital services to the residents of Salford.

The post-holders will be expected to take a lead role in ensuring delivery of a quality service. This will include the following:

This exciting opportunity will allow you to provide clinical leadership in Neuro Scrub, supporting the team manager whilst ensuring patient’s needs are met whilst delivering the highest quality care.

As a Major Trauma Centre we have been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in preparation for the expansion in our theatre service. We are also looking for a team member who will be capable of making informed clinical decisions, often in complex situations.

You will need to be particularly committed to the key role of educating, empowering and supporting people in the theatre environment showing excellent leadership and people management skills.
• Lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice.
• To ensure that essential information on the patient’s condition and progress is recorded by self and team members appropriately according to NMC guidelines.

• To support patients/carers encouraging them to promote their own health and wellbeing and to express their interests and concerns.
• Actively support the Team Leader to ensure the effective running of the department in their absence.

In this role you will be responsible for the management of stock control within the dispensary. You will work closely with the department’s procurement team to ensure inventory is accurately managed. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal and use these to communicate with relevant pharmacy and ward staff regarding supply problems, with a view to prioritise and identify solutions.
