Are you looking for a meaningful role where you can make a real difference? We're searching for compassionate and enthusiastic Support Workers to join our dedicated team in Shrewsbury. You'll support two energetic young men in their 20s with autism and learning disabilities, helping them live full, active lives.
Who Will You Be Supporting?
You'll be working with two fantastic gentlemen who live together in their bungalow and enjoy a wide range of activities. Both are full of life and have unique personalities:
- Cheeky Gent: A social chap who uses Makaton to communicate. He's quite independent, loves interacting with others, and enjoys days out to the cinema or Sealife Centre. He's looking for someone to help him grow and engage in new experiences, but also knows when it's time to wind down.
- Well-Travelled Gent : An individual who has explored the world with his family. He loves his independence and enjoys taking part in a dance group in the local town. He's also a fan of the Friday night disco, but equally enjoys quiet time when needed.
While these two share a home, they lead busy, individual lives and sometimes need their own space, so it's important for support staff to recognise and respect their boundaries.
What Will You Be Doing?
As a Support Worker, your role will be engaging, rewarding, and full of variety. Here's what you can expect:
- Empowering Independence: You'll support both individuals in their day-to-day lives, including helping with personal care and meal preparation while encouraging their independence.
- Activity Support: From cinema trips to day outings, you'll accompany them on their adventures, ensuring they have fun while staying safe.
- Building Connections: You'll learn to communicate using Makaton, and help foster a calm, positive environment, especially during quiet times when they need to wind down.
- Community Engagement: Provide 1:1 support when out in the community, ensuring they stay active and social while exploring their hobbies and interests.
- Daily Routine: Assist with light housekeeping, medication administration, and ensuring the gents feel comfortable and supported in their home.
Shifts Patterns:
- Day Shifts: 7am - 10pm
- Sleep-In-Shift: 10pm - 7am (Paid To Sleep)
You'll be working alternate weekends and up to 1-2 sleep-in shifts per week, with flexibility for an earlier finish for day shifts depending on their activities.
What Makes You a Great Fit?
We're looking for someone who is:
- Confident & Outgoing: You enjoy building relationships and have the confidence to engage in various activities while knowing when to tone things down.
- Good Communicator: You're willing to learn Makaton and understand the importance of non-verbal communication.
- Patient & Observant: You can recognise when it's time for quiet moments and respect their need for downtime.
- Sense of Humour: Both gentlemen appreciate a good laugh, and you'll need to be friendly, fun, and patient.
- Team Player: You'll work closely with their family and a supportive team, ensuring their safety and happiness at all times.
