About the role
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to join our team covering projects in and around the Edinburgh area.
The Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor will support the Balfour Beatty projects to drive HS&W performance, ensuring efficient and effective advice and support to meet and where possible exceed operational requirements supporting the Head of HS&W & HS&W Manager to achieve Zero Harm objectives.

- Liberton High School
- Craighall Primary School
- Blindwells Primary School
- Biomes – Edi Botanic Gardens
- Roseburn to Union Cancel
- Various Active Travel Project
- Cockenie Power Station (Civils – Earthwork project)
- Edinburgh Airport
- Various RAAC projects for Edinburgh University
What you'll be doing
- Implement Business Unit Zero Harm strategy through visible leadership to drive
the delivery of the Zero Harm Action Plan. - Provide project teams with expert HS&W technical advice, guidance and
support. - Collaboratively engage with both internal & external customers and the supply
chain to promote zero harm delivery. - In conjunction with operational management complete a local and bespoke risk-
based Service Level Agreement with each project which is kept under quarterly
review to provide assurance that the project is compliant with HS&W
requirements. - Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix and produce formal
reports using the Project Portal to record HS&W inspections. - Undertake regular checks on Health and Safety Risk Management highlighting
risks and opportunities. - Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events
in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and company requirements. - Support work winning teams with quality HS&E responses for bids, proposals
and PQQs for future projects. - Engage and develop relationships with design & engineering teams to eliminate
and reduce HS&W risk through design. - Challenge the norm by innovating and improving the way we work, whilst
keeping pace with industry change and promote successes. - Provide support and mentoring to other HS&E colleagues in their development
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are required:
- Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification).
May consider candidates with a certificate/qualification currently working
towards one of these qualifications with relevant on-site experience and to have
or be working toward Chartered Membership of IOSH. - Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
- Ability to influence and promote a positive HS&E culture by engaging and
conversing at all levels. - Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets.
- Competence in incident investigation.
- Ability to prepare formal written reports on HS&W topics.
- Broad experience of complex construction and civils projects (or experience
from an equivalent sector)
