We are seeking to appoint an experienced HGV mechanic to undertake maintenance, servicing and repairs to the municipal fleet based at the council’s depot in Merlin Way, Ilkeston.
The main requirements of the role are:
• Carrying out MOT preparation, servicing, maintenance, and repairs to HGV vehicles such as refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers and light to medium sized commercial vehicles.
• Diagnosing vehicle defects in the workshop and carry out repairs in a timely manner.
• Attending vehicle breakdowns and where possible rectify defects at the roadside.
• At times you may be called upon to undertake repairs, maintenance and servicing to agricultural vehicles, plant and equipment including mowers. In this instance, full training will be given.
A clean driving licence including HGV Category C is desirable in order to road test the vehicles, however, a Category C1 is acceptable, and we will provide support to attain Category C.
You’ll be required to participate in an out of hours’ standby service, on a rota basis, when the fleet is operational outside normal working hours and at weekends. An additional stand-by allowance is payable when on-call.
