What are the Major Duties of this Position?

This position is located in the Correctional Systems Department at a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional facility. The Correctional Systems Department is a multi-faceted operation, consisting of Mail Room, Receiving and Discharge, and Records Office.

This position involves a wide range of duties that require knowledge in the following areas: institution mail; postal regulations; the receiving and discharge of inmates; inmate bus movement; processing of writs; handling of legal documents to include the interpretation of judgments for filing detainers; Interstate Agreement on Detainers (IAD); locator center procedures; temporary and final releases; release paperwork; file archiving; certification of records; correctional security procedures; and contact with a variety of law enforcement agencies.

Additionally, this position requires a general skill level in the areas of sentence computation, sentencing laws, court processes, and compliance with court directives in order to address inmate inquiries.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

This includes providing Catholic religious services and religious education, managing the non-appropriated fund budget, providing leadership and feedback to support staff and volunteers, monitoring all Catholic contracts and maintaining a liaison with the Roman Catholic Church through the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) in order to meet the needs of the Catholic military personnel assigned, their families and other authorized personnel of the Catholic faith.

Duties:

1. Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the installation Catholic community, ensuring that the Catholic program complies with legal and regulatory requirements and those of AMS and meets customer needs.
2. Represents the organization and the Catholic Community to a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Liaison to sister Services' Catholic chaplains serving the local area, Archdiocese for the Military Services, United States of America (USA), and Catholic dioceses of local and home churches of base personnel.
3. Provider of Roman Catholic worship, liturgy, rites and pastoral care. Establishes periods for Catholic worship, provides the proper Catholic liturgical environment, and conducts scheduled Catholic Mass as well as devotions, prayer services, sacramental rites, funerals and weddings.
4. Exercises management oversight responsibilities. Advises and provides training to contractors and volunteer staff regarding policies, procedures and directives of management. Explains expectations to contractors and volunteers to ensure a cohesive work environment.

This position is located at the ANG Wing with/or without geographically separated units (GSU)/ ARNG Region located in a State that is divided into multiple regions (within the State) not servicing one specific BDE. This position serves as the implementer of the Integrated Primary Prevention (IPP) Program. Due to the specialty nature of these roles this position reports to the Joint Force Headquarter Primary Prevention Officer. Duties included, but not limited to:

Responsible for supervising inmate workers who receive, store, and issue a wide variety of supplies, material, equipment and commodities required in the operation of the Food Service Department.

Responsible for clerical, Funds Control, Time and Attendance and budgeting duties as assigned by the Food Service Administrator and is expected to apply a working knowledge of policies and procedures as related to this office and the food service aspect of the institution.

Responsible for delivery follow-up on outstanding purchase orders placed with commercial vendors.
