The position will manage the front office operations for the organization and directing the activities of staff, while providing technical oversight and advice to other positions throughout AVP.
The Chief of Staff manages the work of a large, multi-level organization typically through subordinate managers. Supports the Executive Director and the Deputy Executive Director ensuring efficiency in operations senior leadership and ensuring organization operations is efficient. Acts as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing strategic counsel and helping to shape the organization's vision and goals. Provides direction to other managers throughout the service units and serves as liaison between offices internal and external to Office of Accident Investigation and Prevention (AVP).
Manages the organization's daily operations, engaging with subordinate managers and employees to identify, prevent, and resolve problems and complex aviation and technical issues, including regulatory, policy, and customer service issues. Develops and approves solutions to current and anticipated problems which cross organizational lines and disciplines. May participate in developing solutions to FAA-wide problems.
Establishes and implements administrative processes to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the front office, such as: tracking of correspondence, document review, and scheduling of meetings. Makes decisions as delegated by the Executive Director. Ensures advice on policy application is provided promptly and effectively to the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director on the application of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and current policies related to the integration of drones and emerging technologies into the National Airspace System (NAS). Facilitates communication and collaboration across different organizations branches to ensure timeliness, efficiency, and productivity to achieve leadership success. Ensures the work complies with policies and supports the accomplishment of organizational goals.
Directs the work of subordinate employees and/or managers for multiple organizational units/projects/programs and across multiple functions and/or disciplines within AVP. Serves as an essential part of the AVP Management Team, responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining processes and methods to ensure that organizational goals are achieved. Integrates work of multiple organizations to meet strategic goals of the organization and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), participates in strategic planning for the FAA, and makes commitments (program, budget, etc.) for a major organization.
The work includes complex projects and technical programs based on the objectives of the Aviation Safety (AVS), and the FAA. Oversees the implementation of large-scale initiatives and special projects, ensuring they align with the organization's objectives. Defines, acquires, and allocates budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish objectives for multiple organizational units/projects/programs and across multiple functions and/or disciplines. Manages budget and either reallocates resources among organizational units/projects/ programs or acquires additional resources as needed. Leads and integrates the budget planning processes for assigned organizational units/projects/programs, and projects both short-term and long-term future needs. Participates in planning efforts that cross organizational lines within AVP and AVS.
