Ward 1 Care of the Elderly Unit Rehabilitation Unit is part of the Medicine and Emergency Care Business Unit
The Unit consists of 23 in-patient beds. The ward aims to provide evidence based multi-disciplinary care with a focus on rehabilitation and palliative care for the frail older person. This includes multi-disciplinary approach including provision of comprehensive elderly assessment.
The aim of care on the Ward is to help patients on their journey to recovery to the point that they can either return to their own home or to further care in the community.
The Ward Manager role includes being responsible and accountable for the day to day management of the ward, demonstrating excellent leadership skills and an enthusiasm for staff and service development. The post holder will be required to demonstrate professional attributes, including, diversity, dealing with change, and be able to work autonomously and effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
We are for looking for an individual who is a dynamic, highly motivated and passionate nurse, committed to high quality patient care The post holder must have a flexible approach, have expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of nursing care for patients within the acute medical pathway, and will be able to demonstrate excellent clinical leadership and communication skills across the multi-disciplinary team.
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. To be responsible for co-ordinating the provision of continuous clinical care within allocated resources, providing a quality service and high clinical standards for all patients in your area.
To be responsible for the management of all human resource issues relating to the staff employed in your area.
To act as Budget Holder, accountable for the management of the ward budget, and for the management of the ward’s charitable fund.
To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which
(a) engages, enables and empowers others
(b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and
(c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
