Grounds Assistant Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Norwich, NR4 7UY Permanent/ Full time 37.5 hours per weekShift patterns

- Friday 6am to 2pm. You will also be required to work one weekend every 3 weeks.£12.08 per hour per annum plus Serco benefits Serco are recruiting for a Grounds Assistant to join our team based at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital based in Norwich. This role will be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the grounds and gardens within the Hospital site.
Main Accountabilities:
- Dig, hoe, manure, plant, stake, trim, prune, and care for plants on site.
- Sweep car parks, entrances and pathways to ensure they are clear of debris.
- Pressure wash entrance areas, paving areas and smoking areas to ensure the hospital perimeter is clean.
- Complete lawn cutting and edging in line with work schedules.
- Use, clean and maintain the site and relevant equipment, securely store ensuring that any deviation in store levels or suitability of equipment is reported to the Supervisor for action.
- Monitor weather conditions and ensure appropriate action is take to prevent the risk of slips, trips and falls in icey weather – gritting pathways and access points
- Snow clearing and gritting, restocking and cleaning of grit bins
- Treat all outside benches with preservative annually to ensure their maintenance
- Detect and deal with common plant diseases and pests in a safe and controlled manner using correct PPE and working procedures
- Ensure that all work is carried out in line with Health and Safety, COSHH, Quality and Serco and Trust policies and procedures.
- To participate in service audits with Supervisors, Managers and service users as required using paper or electronic equipment.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- An interest in gardening and horticulture and landscaping.
- Able to use tools, including power tools, operating machinery, lifting heavy equipment and loads.
- Be physically fit for digging, lifting, carrying, etc.
- Able to work flexibly, according to seasons and weather and for periods of time outside.
- Able to walk long distances around the hospital site.
- Able to work as part of a team and at times as a lone worker.
- Excellent communication skills.
