This is an opportunity under the Internship Program under Pathways. The Internship Program provides students enrolled in high schools, colleges, trade schools & other qualifying educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies & explore Federal careers while completing their education. Veteran's Preference is applied.

The Budget Division (DOB), situated within the NSF Office of Budget, Finance, and Award Management (BFA), has Foundation-wide responsibility for long-range budget planning; program analysis; budget preparation, presentation, and execution activities; and analytic studies related to budget and program activities. As a STUDENT TRAINEE (MANAGEMENT ANALYST), you will perform the following duties:

• The incumbent is responsible for developing and preparing plans and programs for carrying out responsibilities on an organization-wide basis, determining methods to be used, approaches to be taken, resolving conflicts that arise, consulting with the supervisor where policy has not been established and coordinating work with program officials and external groups.
• Participating in conducting research and analyzing information on a variety of NSF's administrative policies and procedures as they pertain to BFA's business activities and develops summaries.
• Participating with BFA staff in conducting periodic studies and reviews to evaluate internal policies and operating procedures for efficiency and consistency with BFA and NSF's administrative policies and procedures; and assisting in making recommendation to ensure compliance with BFA and NSF guidance.
• Assisting in implementing, and reviewing revised policies and operational procedures to evaluate effectiveness in supporting substantive BFA administrative objectives and support functions.
• Providing support in creating and updating organization SharePoint collaboration pages.
• Participating in the development of the SharePoint collaboration, as well as the content management.
• Participating in aiding the division with the electronic official records storage structure.
• Assisting in the design and development in web applications for internal and external websites in support of the mission of the organization, BFA and the agency.
• Assisting in the management of BFA's communications tools per established NSF policy and in collaboration with OLPA and other external offices, as necessary. Creating new content and repurposes content in a format appropriate to each tool.
• Editing documents to ensure accuracy and clarity and correct formatting, grammar, and spelling for select, important BFA written products. Assisting in identifying critical opportunities to publicize BFA activities.
• The analyst keeps the supervisor informed of progress, potential controversies, or wide-ranging implications. Completed work is reviewed in terms of satisfying expected results of projects or assignments, responsiveness, and conformance with agency policy.

The Student Trainee supports Contract Specialists in performing the following contracting/procurement activities:

• Assisting in preparing documents for award of contracts/task orders and contract/task order modifications.
• Reviewing, reformatting, and editing solicitation statements of work using Word documents and assembling/converting various Word/Excel documents into an Adobe version of the solicitation.
• Aiding in preparing negotiations and in recording receipt of bids, offers, and other offer data.
• Responding to vendor and staff inquiries.
• Tracking progress of solicitations, contracts, and task orders through the solicitation process; updating spreadsheets; and maintaining contract/task order electronic files.

This position is located in the Acquisitions and Contracts Branch of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Eastern Federal Lands Highway (EFLHD) located in Ashburn, VA. EFLHD provides transportation and engineering services to Federal agencies to include planning, design, construction, and rehabilitation of federally-owned highways and bridges. The ideal candidate for this position works well in a team environment and is interested in learning and applying procurement laws, regulations, and policies and performing a variety of procurement tasks and can work full-time in the office during the summer.

Serves as a training instructor in a vocational or occupational training program in the Education Department of a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional facility and may also serve as a program coordinator for other vocational/occupational training programs.

Selects and/or develops curriculums which focus on the appropriate vocational training area.

This position has direct responsibility for the delivery of classroom training for vocational and apprenticeship courses in the field/trade of Carpentry.

Develops a curriculum design and record-keeping system to organize and track student progress through identified course work.

Ensures the training program(s) are implemented and delivered in compliance with Bureau policies, Department of Labor, and Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training regulations, and the standards established by other certifying agencies and organizations.

Serve as apprenticeship program coordinator with responsibility for coordinating the various occupational training programs and classes, as well as responsibilities which include development, review and evaluation of the vocational trades program.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

The Intelligence and Cybersecurity Diversity Fellowship (ICDF) Program is a Congressionally-mandated program designed to help DHS recruit, retain, and reward the best and brightest. The program provides qualified students opportunities to work alongside highly skilled intelligence and cybersecurity professionals at DHS, gain hands-on technical experience, interact with experts and peers at professional development events, and expand their professional network. This program is funded by the DHS Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer.

Typical work assignments include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting with public-facing cyber outreach and engagement.

• GPA of at least a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale;
• Completed 480 hours of work at the Department;
• Participated in designated technical and core training;
• Collaborated with subject matter expert mentors in intelligence and cybersecurity; and
• Completed a challenge project (as designated by the agency).
