The post holder will be responsible for the provision of information through analysis, interpretation and investigation to support commissioning and costing processes. The Emergency Practitioner within the Emergency Department will use specialist knowledge and skills to independently provide healthcare to a select group of patients with minor illnesses or injuries and develop a ‘no wait philosophy’ and support ‘see and treat’ streams .

The Emergency Practitioner is a highly skilled practitioner with a wealth of knowledge and experience and accountable for the total episode of care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and/or referral and discharge. The Emergency Practitioner will undertake the role in accordance the ECP/ PENP Scope of Practice and is supported by other members of the multidisciplinary team. The Emergency practitioner will be administering medication under the Trust Patient Group Directions.

The Emergency practitioner will support Health Care Assistants and student Nurses and will have additional responsibilities of leadership and management within their Scope of practice.

The post holder will be required to work across all 3 sites (Minor Injuries Unit, Rugby Urgent Treatment centre and Coventry City Urgent Treatment Centre where required.

1. The post holder will be working as a trainee ECP within a busy Minor Injury and Illness Unit and Urgent Treatment Centre under a scope of practice; seeing, treating and independently discharging patients as required.

2. The post holder will work with Senior EP colleagues to deliver a high quality, effective and sustainable service.

3. The post holder will undertake a training post and is supported to complete a Minor Injury and Minor Illness University course with a EP portfolio to work towards to becoming a qualified EP.

4. The post holder will work in good partnership with multi-disciplinary team. Teaching and education program for the EP is provided annually. This post will be rotational across two sites.
