Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership and Management
• Provide strong clinical leadership to the nursing team, ensuring clinical best practices are followed, and that care is delivered in a person-centred and compassionate manner.
• Support and supervise nursing and care staff to ensure high-quality care is delivered.
• Be a point of escalation for clinical concerns or complex cases, providing guidance and decision-making support.
• Ensure compliance with relevant clinical guidelines, Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations, and internal company policies.
• Lead by example in fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and best clinical practices within the home.
Resident Care and Wellbeing
• Develop and implement personalized care plans in collaboration with residents, families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring residents’ individual needs are met.
• Conduct regular assessments of residents’ health, monitoring changes and ensuring prompt, appropriate medical interventions when necessary.
• Ensure medications are administered in line with policies, legal requirements, and best practice.
• Ensure residents’ physical, emotional, and social needs are met, promoting dignity, respect, and choice in all aspects of care.
Regulatory and Compliance
• Ensure that the nursing home operates in compliance with CQC standards, Health and Social Care Act, and other relevant legislation.
• Lead and participate in audits to monitor the quality of care, ensuring documentation, care plans, and health records are accurate, up-to-date, and comply with regulatory standards.
• Act as a lead in ensuring infection control policies are adhered to and that the environment is safe, clean, and risk-free.
Staff Development and Training
• Mentor, supervise, and support nursing and care staff, ensuring that they have the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to provide high-quality care.
• Lead and coordinate the continuous professional development of staff, identifying training needs and delivering or facilitating clinical training sessions.
• Conduct regular staff appraisals, supervisions, and competency assessments to ensure consistent, high standards of care are maintained.
• Foster a supportive and collaborative team environment, promoting open communication and professional growth.
Family and Stakeholder Engagement
• Maintain effective communication with residents' families, keeping them informed about their loved ones’ health, care plans, and any changes in condition.
• Work closely with external healthcare professionals, including GPs, physiotherapists, and community nurses, to ensure holistic care.
• Act as an advocate for residents, ensuring their views and wishes are considered in all aspects of their care.
Health and Safety
• Ensure the nursing home maintains high standards of health and safety, conducting risk assessments and ensuring policies are followed.
• Participate in incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified, and corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure all equipment used within the home is safe, properly maintained, and used according to health and safety regulations.
Quality Improvement and Innovation
• Lead quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing clinical outcomes and resident experience.
• Analyse data and clinical performance metrics to identify areas for improvement, implementing evidence-based interventions where appropriate.
• Stay informed of new developments in clinical care and nursing practices, ensuring the home remains at the forefront of care delivery.
Operational Support
• Support the Home Manager in the day-to-day running of the nursing home, stepping in to cover managerial duties in their absence when required.
• Collaborate with the Home Manager in the recruitment, selection, and induction of new nursing and care staff.
• Manage clinical budgets effectively, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to provide quality care within financial constraints.
Qualification
• Registered Nurse (RGN/RMN/RNLD) with active NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a clinical leadership role, preferably in a care home, nursing home, or healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of CIW regulations and the Health and Social Care Act.
• Demonstrated experience in managing teams, delivering clinical training, and conducting audits.
Desirable
• Postgraduate qualifications in leadership, management, or clinical specialties.
• Experience in working with older adults, including those with dementia, mental health needs, or complex care requirements.
• Knowledge of clinical governance and quality assurance frameworks.
