The role
As a Constructive Designer you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Our Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) Waterfront and Design Group offers the opportunity to work on interesting and varied design and engineering projects supporting defense in the UK and internationally.
Day to day, you'll be working as part of the Constructive Discipline team supporting the Future Maritime Support Programme (FMSP) with the production of guidance information and technical specifications for the continuous upgrade of our Royal Navy Submarines.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- The planning and production of design drawings and associated documentation in support of design projects.
- Selection of best methodologies in the development of design and safety documentation.
- Production of design and safety and other technical documentation for the implementation of engineering projects as defined by line management to the required standards and timescales.
- Perform configuration management activities in accordance with contract arrangements.
- Have a sound knowledge of relevant design and safety documentation, strategy and associated drivers.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office/onsite and days working from home. There is a requirement to travel to Plymouth, Devon or Stoke Gifford, Bristol.
Essential experience of the Constructive Designer
- Suitable experience of working within constructive engineering environment and is comfortable working in a highly regulated environment Knowledge of constructive manufacturing techniques
- Experience within a product design background or design for manufacture background
- Knowledge of relevant steel / material grades
- Knowledge of welding and NDE techniques
- Ability to read engineering drawings
Qualifications for the Constructive Designer
- ONC with appropriate apprenticeship and/or experience in Constructive Engineering preferably in a design or marine environment but not essential.
