Major Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Clinical
  • Independently and comprehensively evaluates a wide variety of patients as appropriate for their diagnosis to determine current levels of function and areas of impairment. Evaluations may include the following areas: activities of daily living, strength, range of motion, sensation, perception, and cognition using standardized and non- standardized evaluation tools.
  • Based on the evaluation and collaboration with the patient, treatment team, and significant others (when appropriate), develops a treatment plan and measurable goals designed to restore function, compensate for dysfunction, and minimize debilitation.
  • Implements occupational therapy plans to meet the patient's rehabilitation objectives. Treatment may include functional activities and specific treatment methods and modalities which have as their goal the improvement of patient's activities of daily living, strength, range of motion, sensation, perception, or cognitive status. Treatment may involve the prescription, fabrication, and training in the use of splints and adaptive equipment as well as instructing the patient and/or caregiver in its safe and proper use.
  • Other interventions may include the evaluation for, prescription of and training in, the use of wheelchairs and power mobility devices. The assessments may include patient's fixed and modifiable deformities, sitting/postural requirements, presence of amputations, skin integrity, pressure areas, living environment, and mode of transportation for the device. Ensuring an appropriate fit of a manual wheelchair may include making some mechanical adjustments and/or attaching positioning devices and accessories.
• Educational
  • Increases knowledge and skills by attending seminar, workshops, lectures, and in-services, particularly in the field of physical rehabilitation.
  • Develops and implements interdepartmental and intradepartmental in-services and ongoing training.
  • Supervises and trains occupational therapy interns and students when assigned by supervisor.
  • Interprets occupational therapy to patients, residents, allied health professionals, students, volunteers, visiting public and Veterans Affairs officials.
• Administrative
  • Identifies supply and equipment needs and submits requests for ordering and ensuring proper supply inventory levels are maintained.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly clinic environment. Responsible for identifying safety hazards and faulty equipment in the OT clinic and submitting appropriate work orders.
  • Participates in developing Quality Improvement indicators, monitors QI activity, and provides statistical data as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities for program development and assists Section Chief in developing new programs or expanding current programs.

Job responsibilities

Clinical services:

• Provide supervision and mentorship support to new / junior therapists.

Continuing Professional Development

• Stay current with the best practices in relation to the field of literacy interventions and evidence-based practices in relation to autism.
• Participate and engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
• Remain up to date with relevant organizational processes, policies and professional codes of conduct.

Job Holder requirements and attributes

• Possess at least a recognised degree from a recognised University, in any discipline area.
• Teaching qualifications or equivalent in Special Education is preferred
• Trained in specific learning approaches, such as Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell and/or other relevant remedial approaches.
• At least 1-2 years of experience in providing learning support to children with literacy challenges and/or learning support experience for students at Primary Level.
• Prior experience working in the field of special education and/or working with individuals with special needs is an added advantage.

Job Responsibilities

Job Holder Requirements and Attributes

• Possess a degree / postgraduate degree in Occupational Therapy from an institution recognised by the Allied Health Professional Council, Singapore (AHPC).
• Applicants for Senior Therapist position should possess at least 5 years of relevant working experience.
• Valid practising certificate with full AHPC registration.
• Prior experience working in the field of special education and/or working with individuals with special needs is an added advantage.

Some duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• RRTs at this grade level work independently providing respiratory care in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
• The specific assignments are dependent on facility structure and complexity levels.
• Use data and patient assessment to establish appropriate plan of care and determine if outcomes are being met.
• Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality of patient care within area of specialty.
• Manage and maintain the airway and ventilation of the patient using appropriate mechanical means. RRTs determine and implement complex respiratory care such as protocols, respiratory modalities, bronchoscopy, medications or supplemental oxygen and intubation.
• Monitor critical systems.
• Use advanced modes of ventilation and outpatient services, such as home ventilators and COPD case management.
• RRTs suggest alternate modes of treatment where indicated based on assessment and analysis of patient response to treatment.
• RRTs at the full performance level may perform invasive procedures such as arterial line placement.
• Serve as a preceptor to lower graded staff.
• May lead projects developing new policies, procedures or protocols.

Responsible for performing physical therapy evaluations, formulating objective treatment plans, and providing treatments for patients (inmates) referred by other medical staff.

Plans, implements and administers treatments utilizing various accepted techniques which include, but are not limited to: therapeutic exercise; manual therapy; functional training; prescription, application, and/or fabrication of devices and equipment; integumentary repair and protection; and electrotherapeutic, physical, and mechanical modalities.
