Job Responsibilities

1. Maintain consistent competency in area of expertise

2. Demonstrate professional & legal accountability for all aspect of work within the domain

3. Ensure completion of patient documentation, records and accurate statistical to reflect care provided and meet standards

4. Provide clinical assessment, analysis and provision of clinical diagnosis autonomously for individual patients to determine their need for occupational therapy intervention within specialist area

5. Use evidence-based practice to plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care autonomously to maximize health status

6. Able to manage complex and challenging cases in area of specialty

7. Maintain and manage department caseload/workload effectively and efficiently

8. Communicate and make recommendations to all relevant disciplines of staff to maximize patient care

9. Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of occupational therapy services modalities

10. Orientate, supervise & advise staff when appropriate when required or requested on patient care

11. Work with Therapy Assistants on administrative responsibilities.

12. Any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by Supervisor

As a Senior Speech and Language Therapist, you will lead dysphagia therapy services, driving improvements in quality, compliance, and service outcomes

You will be responsible for:

- Developing and refining policies focused on improving dysphagia therapy services.

- Ensuring alignment of clinical practices with regulatory guidelines (NICE, HCPC, RCSLT).

- Leading communication initiatives to keep therapists informed on service updates.

- Supporting and advising therapists, especially on complex cases.

- Monitoring and guiding therapy record-keeping and quality standards.

- Providing training and support to colleagues, carers, and educational staff.

- Collaborating with service leads to ensure cohesive approaches across various settings.

What we are looking for:

- Previously worked as a Speech & Language Therapist,Speech Therapist or in a similar role.

- At least 3 years' experience supporting service users with dysphagia and complex eating and drinking needs.

- Leadership experience in dysphagia therapy at Band 7 level.

- Post Graduate qualification in Dysphagia.

- Qualified therapist status.

- Enhanced DBS check.

About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and qualified registered Senior Occupational Therapist to join our team at Epsom & Ewell. We are proactive in supporting all our staff to develop, with a focus on continual practice development. This diverse role requires professional experience of assessing for major adaptations, specialised equipment and completing moving and handling risk assessments, with the aim of supporting our clients to live meaningful lives within the community, the very essence of occupational therapy.

We offer regular supervision to all our staff every month, plus we provide informal support from the wider team. The value of occupational therapists is well recognised within our team, which enables us to fully utilise our skills and strengths to achieve a critical service, focussing on what is important to the individual.

As a Senior Occupational Therapist in Epsom & Ewell Locality Team, you will conduct holistic assessments of social care needs and planning support across a dedicated caseload. Working closely with families, carers and care workers, you'll play a vital role in supporting people from diverse backgrounds, with a wide range of needs.

Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

• Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy and current registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Experience of working within a social care, health or community focused multi-disciplinary setting
• Ability to complete person centred and proportionate OT assessments
• Familiarity with moving and handling equipment such as hoists and stand aids
• Knowledge of medical conditions and the likely impact on the individual, carer and family
• Knowledge of current legislation, including the Care Act and the Mental Capacity Act and its application to practice in a social care setting
• Substantial post-qualification professional experience would also be required and experience of providing professional supervision (support and training to further these skills will be provided).

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and locality based social care workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area.
