• Overall General Management.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

Antimicrobial drug resistance is a growing an alarming problem that poses serious challenges to the existing public health infrastructure of Singapore and of the rest of the world. Microbial pathogens are becoming more and more difficult to treat as they steadily gain partial and full resistance to last-line antibiotics.

Recalcitrant infections can add enormous costs and strains to health care systems that are already stressed. This is especially a concern in Singapore, where between now and 2030, the health care system will need to accommodate the costs associated with a population that will undergo an unprecedented age shift in which the number of residents aged 65 years or older will increase threefold. Altogether, there is an urgent need to develop new alternatives or compatible therapies to combat the growing problem of AMR.

We hypothesize that, given its undisturbed state and the thick peat layer, this peatland functions as a net carbon sink. Validating this hypothesis would provide novel evidence of active carbon removal from pristine peatlands in Southeast Asia.

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in field-based research within a pristine tropical peat swamp forest. The role involves periods spent outdoors, where living and working conditions are basic. The Translational Materials Innovation Group, led by Professor Nam-Joon Cho, has world-leading expertise in multiple research areas, such as bio-interfacial science, including optical and acoustic biosensors, phospholipid assemblies, protein adsorption, membrane-active compounds, and antibacterial and antiviral applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducts experiments related to drug delivery, nanoencapsulation and lipid nanoparticles
• Assists in interpreting and applying processes and procedures to conduct/monitor project progress
• Gathers information/ data and prepare documents for reporting/ papers
• Assists in and delivers training and coaching new members with relevant laboratory/ technical skills
• Knowledge of web platform establishment, progress management and external collaborator communication, and contents upload.
• Project performance targets & metrics development and tracking of the goals and KPIs.
• Planning and operation of the international meetings, conferences, seminars, and webinars
• Project related task reports as requested.

Job Requirements:

• Master’s degree in materials and mechanical engineering
• Experience in thesis and/or paper writing and publish
• Experience in research project collaboration with research institutes
• Experience in work software, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience with lab management is preferred but not mandatory
• Excellent on/offline communication and organizational skills
• Able to work within teams
• Self-motivated, fast learner, and confident in presenting to and engaging with external stakeholders
