About the role

Our software engineers continue to lead the way, building technology that can have a real impact on our customers. Our 10-week paid summer programme will give you exposure to a selection of the latest technologies. You’ll be able to bring your knowledge and experience to life, helping us to better serve our customers.

You will be responsible for

We’ll also show you how to architect some of the most complex and ambitious software systems being built. Using agile principles, you’ll learn how to protect customer data, how to automate and how to build large scale systems.

You’ll experience the breadth of software engineering with the opportunity to spend time in our front-end or back-end development teams. You’ll be paired with other engineers in your team and work closely with your product managers to build software for either our customers or colleagues. Our software engineering teams work across our London and Welwyn offices with the possibility of a placement in either location.

A successful internship with us can guarantee your place on our Technology Software Engineering Graduate Programme when you graduate - before you’ve even started your final year of study.

• 国内におけるフリマアプリ「メルカリ」、スマホ決済サービス「メルペイ」、暗号資産事業に関するサービスを企画から開発を担うメルコインの機能開発に挑戦していただきます。多様なバックグラウンドや専門性を持つソフトウェアエンジニアが所属するチームにジョインしていただき、チームの一員として業務を担っていただきます。
• 具体的な業務内容については、メルカリ・メルペイ・メルコインにおけるお客さま目線のUX向上や仕様改善に関するプロジェクトに携わっていただきます。現在、メルカリでは検索画面の改善をはじめ、出品・購買に関する多様な施策が行われているため、実際に技術やデータに触れていただき、アウトプットを出していただきます。

Team’s Mission/Work Responsibilities

Mercari Summer Internship 2024

• Interns will be tasked with developing features for the Mercari marketplace app in Japan or the Merpay mobile payment service. Successful candidates will join a team of software engineers, who come from diverse backgrounds and hold various expertise, and work as a member of their team.
• The specific content of your work will involve projects to improve the UX and specifications of our products and make them more friendly for Mercari, Merpay and Mercoin users. Currently, Mercari is implementing various initiatives including improving the search screen to enhance the listing and purchasing experience, and therefore you will be requested to actually handle our technology and data to produce output.
• At the end of the internship, you will report the content and actual results of your work at an event held for this purpose. You can find presentation materials produced by past interns in the following article on our owned media site, Mercan.

• During this internship, you will work to develop actual features integrated in the app and to improve the operation of the app. We hope that, by working in the same environment as our full-time members, interns will not only acquire new skills and immerse themselves in the company culture, but also use the internship as an opportunity for self-reflection.

Internship Period

• Start dates: July 1, July 16, August 1, August 16, September 1, or September 16, 2024

• You can choose which date you would like to start.
• The duration of the internship is flexible; you may choose a duration between 2 to 3 months.
• At least 3 days a week, for at least 2 months

Compensation

• Hourly wage: Approximately 2,500 to 3,300 yen (roughly equivalent to a monthly wage of 400,000 to 528,000 yen if you work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week)

Note: Interns’ salaries will be determined based on their individual experience and skills. Even as a student, you will be evaluated fairly and in the same way as our full-time employees, and you will receive proper compensation.

The internship missions

Working within the operations team of our consumer goods QC inspections business, the intern will be responsible for the continuous improvement of our processes aiming at operational excellence and offering cutting-edge solutions for better quality control in the supply chains of our clients.

• Provide technical support on the ground for the inspections: perform product inspections in the factories, train the inspectors, optimize the organization in the factories.
• Perform internal audits to ensure that the inspection SOP is well applied by the inspectors and that the client’s inspections requirements are well integrated and followed.
• Provide technical expertise to identify and evaluate process improvement opportunities: inspections physical and IT tools, AI technologies, inspection protocols, training, data management and analysis, monitoring tools…
• Partner and collaborate with the different support departments to ensure that all issues reported by the inspectors or by the clients are addressed and that effective solutions are implemented at all levels.
• Autonomously manage selected LEAN projects with high value deliverables for improvement of lead-time, quality and costs of the products inspections.

The talent recruited will report directly to the local Operations Manager.
