At this level, the AMSA performs a full range of duties to include scheduling appointments along with interpreting provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines. The hospitalist (MD) position is in the Medical Unit within the Acute Care Service Line at the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System. The hospitalists' functions are to provide accurate, reliable, and comprehensive history and physical examination of the patients admitted to Acute Care Medical Unit for inpatient diagnosis and treatment, and provide routine daytime care for medical inpatients. The patients will be assessed in person in the Emergency Department or Medical Unit, and the hospitalist staff will make rounds on weekends and holidays. The hospitalist (MD) must work cooperatively as a member of the Medical Unit team and demonstrate customer service principles in all aspects of work. The hospitalist (MD) will perform job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital procedures, including telemetry monitoring and patient care-related procedures. The hospitalist (MD) reports to the Medical Director, Acute Care Service Line, but must work in collaboration with the Medical Unit Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Staff Nurses, nursing assistants, medical instrument technicians, and other Medical Unit hospitalists. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Performing and recording clinical history and its components.

• Perform radionuclide therapy in collaboration with the Nuclear Medicine Physician. Receive and assay prescribed therapeutic doses. Fill out appropriate forms and administer dose with the nuclear medicine physician. Instruct patient, family and nursing staff in radiation safety precautions. Perform radiation surveys, post appropriate caution signs, and distribute personnel monitoring devices as required. Monitor and properly store any radioactive waste for disposal.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of personnel requiring film badges. Read and understand the film badge exposure report. Determine exposure patterns and recommend actions to reduce exposure levels to the public, radiation workers and self.
• Prepare studies for nuclear medicine physician's interpretation by insuring completeness of all forms involved in the procedure. Record appropriate data and related information on the proper patient worksheet and images.
• Work with closely with schedulers for patient procedures, taking into consideration camera availability, scan length, patient condition, the need for multiple nuclear medicine studies, other clinic appointments of the patient, contraindications for the test and urgency of the request. Inform patient of all pertinent preparations for his/her scan, i.e., NPO, follow certain diet, bowel prep, etc. Ensure any printed patient information sheets are updated and relevant. Follows VHA Radiology Orders Management Directives and conducts scheduling audits.
• Perform required technical procedures for safe receipt, handling, transport, usage and disposal of radioactive materials, assuring compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), National Health Physics Program (NHPP), Department of Transportation (DOT) and license conditions. Recognize potential radiation contamination by visual and mechanical methods. Take necessary actions to minimize contamination and exposure including contacting the Radiopharmacy and radiation safety officer if needed.

• Ordering diagnostic studies and other special tests, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT) scans, etc.
• Carrying out health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education activities.
• Ordering or obtaining laboratory specimens.
• Ordering ancillary services, such as, pharmacy, social services, physical medicine and rehabilitation therapies, prosthetic services, etc.
• Ordering VA specialty service consults and initiating requests for non-VA medical care and consults in accordance with VHA and local facility policy and procedures.
• Ordering patient care supplies.
• Writing orders for or prescribing medications in accordance with policy.
• Obtaining and documenting informed consent for treatments and procedures for which the PA is responsible. The PA's Scope of Practice must authorize obtaining informed consent for the treatment or procedure being performed. In addition, the Scope of Practice must authorize the PA to perform the procedure or provide the treatment for which the consent is being obtained or to actively participate as an integral member of the treatment team performing the procedure such as assisting the primary surgeon.
• Providing education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
• Reviews consults to the gynecology section.

• Facilitate response/actions to patient inquires to care and treatment received by the Gynecology Service.
• Functions as a liaison between the Gynecology Section Chief, the Surgery Service and respective Specialty Surgery Sections, and the Ambulatory Care Service including but not limited to Primary Care, Medical Specialty Care, and Emergency Care .
• Attends committee meetings and process action teams representing the Gynecology service at the direction of the Gynecology Section Chief or Designee.
• As needed assists other practitioners assigned to Gynecology who have administrative or clinical concerns.
• Assists the Gynecology Section Chief or Designee with quality of care activities.
• Other administrative duties as assigned by the Gynecology Section Chief or Designee.

The Registered Nurse (RN) Safety Manager (PSM) ,Supervisor executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management program aspects. The Program Safety Manager, Supervisor demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to impact the standard of care and safety of staff while caring for all patients throughout the continuum of care. Accountable for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the program and the staff who support it. The PSM Supervisor will oversee the provision of staff education, orientation, competencies, and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation related to the program.

• Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence.
• Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals.

Ensures the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are understood by the team and integrated into the program strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and products, and services.
• Communicates and evaluates assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and timeframes for completion.
• Demonstrates proficiency in leadership based on sound judgment, critical thinking, and deliberate planning. Leads discussions with facility leaders regarding program goals and requirements to meet the operational needs of the facility and program.
• Provides strategic advice and recommendations, while collectively collaborating with the program staff to develop solutions to complex issues and reporting actions to leadership. The PSM Supervisor is responsible for the documented outcomes at the program level and for supporting the program in all services within the organization.
• Program level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility, Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN), or Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO).
