We are looking for a fulltime band 6 orthoptist to work as part of our dynamic team of 5 orthoptists, thirteen consultant ophthalmologists and three optometrists. You will be involved in all aspects of the Orthoptic Service, which includes both Paediatric and Adult strabismus services, with opportunities to develop skills in extended roles within such areas as SEN, JIA and Stroke.

To participate in the clinical supervision of undergraduate orthoptic students as required.

• To take sole responsibility for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of Orthoptic patients referred to the Eye Clinic as a member of the Orthoptic team, using current evidence-based practice. This requires knowledge and interpretation of professional guidelines and includes inpatients and outpatients attending the Orthoptic clinic.
• To have excellent and highly developed communication skills with all staff, patients, and parents/ carers of patients.
• To utilise a range of verbal and non-verbal (e.g., Makaton sign language) mechanisms in the assessment and communication of treatment plans to patients and parents / carers, in order to progress visual improvement. This will include patients who may have difficulty in understanding, e.g., pre-verbal children, stroke victims, hearing impaired patients, and those with special needs / learning disability.

• To determine the diagnosis, prognosis, and management of Orthoptic cases where clinical signs and symptoms are highly complex, may be sensitive and emotive, and do not always fall into categories and/or where information is limited or unavailable and there may be significant barriers to acceptance and understanding
• To provide a service that enables each patient to obtain the best visual function including visual acuity, binocular vision, ocular movements, and ocular cosmetic appearance as appropriate.
• To explain the details of (confidential) medical conditions which may be highly complex and sensitive, to gain acceptance for treatment, and motivate or persuade patients/ parents to comply with treatment programmes. This requires a holistic and tactful approach where patients or parents have no knowledge of the ocular defects associated with a particular medical condition, and / or have difficulty accepting the diagnosis.
• To communicate the initial actual or potential diagnosis which may be of a distressing nature requiring sensitive, careful explanation of highly complex information, either to the parent or carer of a child, or to an adult patient

Consultant Respiratory

There is one substantive consultant post available to join the existing team of fourteen NHS consultants, one Clinical Professor and two nurse consultants. This dynamic academic respiratory unit provides opportunities for sub-specialty development, respiratory-related research, and medical education, with close links to the Norwich Medical School. The department is integrated with the department of thoracic surgery and has state of the art facilities for radiology, lung function and bronchoscopy.

Hepatology and Hepatobiliary Medicine



The clinical hepatology team currently is composed of 8 consultants Hepatologists.



The hepatology team offer a wide range of subspecialist clinics dedicated to: hepatobiliary cancer, viral hepatitis, PSC, autoimmune liver disease, alcohol and NAFLD. This is in addition to specialist liver transplantation clinics and a range of general liver clinics. They also provide specialist ERCP, Spyglass and Endoscopic Ultrasound services. The latter in conjunction with the Radiology department.



There are two dedicated Hepatobiliary specialists’ nurses who support the HPB ward and outpatient cases.



The team has excellent working relationships with the Cambridge Liver Unit and works closely with our colleagues there in the management of patient’s pre and post liver transplantation. We are part of the regional HCV network providing DAA drugs to patients with HCV infection according to operational managed network. We also provide an autoimmune liver disease MDT with our network partners.

This is an opportunity to join the Radiotherapy Physics team, who provide clinical scientific and physics services to the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology. The Department has a Managed Services Contract with Ergéa to provide a comprehensive radiotherapy service to the people of Norfolk. The radiotherapy equipment consists of five Varian TrueBeams, 2 CT-simulators, Eclipse treatment planning system, orthovoltage unit and Bravos High dose-rate brachytherapy afterloading machine. The Department is fully electronically networked and largely paper-free. The department has also recently installed SGRT (VisionRT) across all linacs and CT.

The postholder will be expected to work shifts as part of an extended day working arrangement. Some weekend working may be required.

This a new full-time substantive appointment in response to service requirements. The post joins three glaucoma consultants, a consultant optometrist, five specialist nurses, a glaucoma fellow and a glaucoma resident doctor to deliver the glaucoma service at the Department of Ophthalmology, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The job may also require travel to Cromer Hospital.
