• Performs work involving consult management, scheduling Special Mode and Common Carrier transportation;
• Collects, compiles, and tracks data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS);
• Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports;
• Processes mileage reimbursement claims using the Beneficiary Travel Self-Service System;
• Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate;
• Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system;
• Coordinates service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas;
• Performs support services e.g., systems management, operations, workload forecasting, review, and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc.
• Coordinates the day-to-day operation of VTS program flow, processes, and functions;
• Plans and provides support services in the following types of program areas: electronic records management; driver scheduling setup & management; space utilization services.

This position serves as a supervisory technician in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS). SPS is the central point within the Medical Center from which patient care medical/surgical supply inventory; instruments and equipment are received, processed, packaged, and distributed. SPS consists of three distinct units: Decontamination; Sterile Preparation and Distributions. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinate all operations, priorities, and procedures daily within the Sterile Processing Department.
• Collaborates with Lead Technician to ensure work is distributed in the most fair and equitable manner.
• Plans and assigns work on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis and adjusts assignments during a workday to alleviate halt points in reprocessing activities.
• Responsible for the direct supervision of day-to-day operations in SPS during the evening tour of duty, including reusable medical devices (RMD) reprocessing for all clinical services including management of the Decontamination Unit, Sterile preparation area, and sterile storage of RMD.
• Directly oversees the work of employees under his/her supervision, orients new employees to their duties, validates competencies of employees, identifies equipment requirements, and recommends methods to improve the quality and productivity of the service.
• Evaluates employee performance and behavior, and if deficient, will initiate appropriate corrective and disciplinary actions.
• Hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher-level supervisor or manager.
• Advises the Chief SPS of problems in the organization's activities, and provides input that may lead to disciplinary actions, such as counseling and formal disciplinary action, within the framework of progressive discipline; recommendation may include termination, especially separation during the probationary period.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

• *Serves as a project team member, providing technical and professional assistance to Tribes and other organizations for road maintenance and transportation facility inventories.
• *Develops Regional equipment management policies for effective equipment use.
• *Investigates and analyze transportation facilities to identify condition, deferred maintenance needs and identify structural deficiencies.
• *Conducts road maintenance program reviews and site visits of tribal road maintenance programs.
• *Manage the transportation database systems; prepare and generate various reports.
• *Provide technical guidance to Agency personnel and Tribes on operations, equipment, funding, personnel planning, and evaluation of new products and procedures for implementation of a maintenance program.
• *Provide training and technical guidance to Tribes on service ratings and maintenance reports.

Major duties may include but are not limited to:

• Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
• Keep in touch with the status and progress of work, and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly.
• Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
• Maintain a current knowledge and answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up.
• Ensure the Beneficiary Travel office staff provide transportation at Government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for examination, treatment, or care.
• Share the responsibility with the Supervisory Transportation Assistant for all beneficiary travel duties to include determining method of payment of authorized and unauthorized ambulance claims submitted for consideration.
• Responsible for the processing of Veteran claims reimbursements utilizing BTSSS which provides a more veteran-focused experience for beneficiary travel reimbursements, allowing claimants to submit and track travel claims at their convenience.
• Process Veteran claims reimbursements via paper submission and work towards increase efficiency and accuracy in claims processing, provide letters to noncompliant claims that include rejections codes.
• Reviews requests for reimbursement of travel costs for assuring compliance with regulations and procedures, completeness, accuracy, internal consistency, and agreement with basic authorization.
• The employee will have regular and recurring contact with personnel external to the agency for the obtainment of services, sharing of information and authorization, clarification, or denial of payment.
• Works closely with the Supervisor, keeping channels of communication open on a daily basis.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
