• To assess and record students’ progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and areas for development, inform planning, and recognise the level at which the student is achieving.
• To undertake assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, departmental and school procedures.
• To contribute to the preparation and presentation of informative reports to parents/carers.
• To undertake assessment of students and participate in the school’s system reporting to parents/carers.

School Tutor Duties:

• To be a Tutor to an assigned group of students, to undertake daily learning checks and daily Guided Reading.
• To promote the general progress and wellbeing of individual students and of the Tutor Group as a whole.
• To liaise with the Heads of Year to ensure the implementation of the school’s system.
• To register students, accompany them to assemblies, encourage their full attendance at all lessons and their participation in other aspects of school life.
• To alert appropriate staff to problems experienced by students and make recommendations as to how these may be resolved.
• To communicate, as appropriate, with parents of students and persons or bodies outside the school concerned with the welfare of individual students, after consultation with appropriate staff.

We are looking for a hardworking and passionate Psychology teacher to join our Social Science lecturing team. As a professional Lecturer you will be required to undertake formal scheduled teaching duties, which will include teaching, tutorials, and student assessment. The Social Science department includes a range of qualifications from level 1 study programmes to level 6 Bachelor's degrees. Our learners range from 16-18 students to mature learners who are returning to education. This post will involve teaching across a range of Social Science programmes in the department. The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the EPSRC EP/Z534250/1 project “Quantum Information with mechanical systems” and join the groups of Dr. Luca Dellantonio and Prof. Simon Horsley in the Physics department. The project aims at designing and operating novel optomechanical devices that are capable of quantum information processing. This includes the design, the fabrication and the characterization of these devices. The Applicant will be responsible for the theoretical side, that includes (1) the analytical and numerical investigations of the systems and (2) devising the protocols that will be employed by experimentalists to run these novel optomechanical devices.

The successful applicant will perform research in the field of quantum optics and quantum computing. The Applicant will engage with experimental groups at the Universities of Exeter and Lancaster contributing to the realization and characterization of these devices. We welcome Applicants with background in various research subjects, including but not limited to quantum optics, material design, and machine learning.

The duties of the post will include performing research (numerical and analytical calculations), writing and publishing original scientific papers, as well as taking part in weekly group meetings and yearly project meetings. Regular participation in international conferences is planned throughout the project. We offer an opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly developing group of scientists that work together in a constructive, positive, and inclusive environment.

About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives in the relevant areas of physics, work collaboratively, and co-supervise younger researchers. They will have excellent writing skills, desire to self-study, and will be goal-oriented. During the project, the applicant is expected to learn or improve the skills that are required to acquire independence as a researcher.

The project provides funding for participating in several conferences each year. In these conferences, the candidate will share the results of the group to an international audience, build their own network, and facilitate new collaborations with leading scientists in the relevant fields. The candidate will also be encouraged to participate in external stays at leading institutions with which the group is routinely collaborating. Interactions with other groups in Exeter is also supported. The research environment at the University of Exeter is very alive, with regular meetings for theorists at the department and social events.

We seek a suitable candidate to fulfil the role of Science Technician. The Science department at SMCC has a purpose-built preparation room serving six laboratories. The technician would be required to support the delivery of Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics to GCSE level.
The role involves taking responsibility for the practical resourcing for KS3 and GCSE classes under the direction of the teaching staff. In-class support of students during experiments would be part of this role. The ability to be proactive in the preparation of planned experiments and reactive to situations that may arise such as spillages or broken equipment is vital. A willingness to be trained as a First Aider is also important.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic with good communication skills. A knowledge of and passion for science would be highly desirable. Previous experience and/or a willingness to undergo training is essential. Good IT skills including in the use of spreadsheets, word processing, databases and others software would be advantageous. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a good school within a strong and experienced Science department and your existing skills will be enhanced and developed through our CPD programme.

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr. Charles Downing and his theoretical research group in quantum optics, nanophotonics and condensed matter. This Royal Society funded post is available for around 8 months with a start date from November 2024 (at the earliest) to January 2025 (at the very latest). The end date cannot be later than the end of August 2025 due to the funding ending at that point.

The successful applicant will conduct high quality research in theoretical quantum optics and related areas. They will work on current issues interesting the research group, including quantum batteries, non-Hermitian quantum physics and quantum topology.

About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to conduct high quality research in theoretical quantum optics and related areas.
