The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme at Duke-NUS houses state-of-the-art technologies for profiling mitochondrial function and metabolic adaptations in model organisms and undertakes translational research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is a severe metabolic liver disease that can affect up to 6.5% of the adult population, with only one FDA-approved drug. Dr. Jin Zhou’s team is specialised in studying the novel molecular pathogenesis underlying MASH for the identification of new druggable targets. The lab uses a combination of biochemistry, genetics, animal modeling, and metabolomics approaches to understand cellular processes related to mitochondrial function and hepatic lipid metabolism.

Research Fellow in Carbon-Negative Synthetic Biology and Engineering of Cyanobacterial Cell Factories

We are seeking one or more highly motivated and creative postdoctoral researchers to join our dynamic team at the Synthetic Biology for Clinical and Technological Innovation (SynCTI), Synthetic Biology Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) and the National Centre for Engineering Biology (NCEB).

LTMI aims to develop local infrastructure and deep capabilities in the development of molecular imaging technologies for guiding the advancement and translation of new imaging biomarkers to guide novel therapeutics in viral infectious disease.

The successful candidate will lead pre-clinical imaging efforts to validate novel imaging probes that target potential biomarkers of viral infection and host response. Genetic engineering of plants promises to provide sustainable solutions for food security and climate change mitigation. Current genetic engineering technologies using Agrobacterium, viruses and nanoparticles through syringe injection and biolistic bombardment suffer from limitations including narrow ranges of host species, low transformation efficiencies, strict restrictions on cargo types and sizes, tissue damage and unwanted transgene integration into plant genome. Most of the world now live in cities. Liveable, sustainable and resilient cities are needed to face the looming challenges of climate change, the next pandemics, ageing populations and technological, social and economic disruptions such as what we are currently experiencing.

NUS Cities is a multi-disciplinary, open and inclusive collaborating platform comprising the following three pillars: education, research and advisory.

Education: Educate the next generation of students as well as current practitioners to take an urban systems approach to plan, govern, build and manage cities, using a strong case-based approach taught by both practitioners and academics.

Research: Taking a systems approach tacking some of our biggest urban challenges, and in the process, gradually developing a Science of Cities.

Advisory: Provide strategic advisory services to organisations and cities. NUS Cities will also partner other universities and research institutions locally and internationally, as well as with industry partners worldwide.

NUS Cities hence draws on the varied talent and expertise of the University in its colleges, faculties and departments and centres of excellence to drive research to better plan, manage, and govern, high-density, high-growth, sustainable, resilient, and liveable cities through an urban systems approach and systems thinking.

The full-time appointment for this Research Assistant position (Business Title: Associate, NUS Cities) is for a contract period of 1 year with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities 

• Establish and manage databases.
• Interpret and analyse data
• Assist in generating conference presentations and papers for submission to peer reviewed journals
• Collaborate across teams, assisting in multiple research projects at once
• Assist research PIs to ensure the successful and timely completion of the project(s)
• Any other tasks assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum Masters’ degree in a relevant discipline

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree
