The post holder will provide clinical management and operational leadership for the research practitioner workforce working across the Trust, which will include all aspects of research. The post holder will be responsible for leading the research practice, research skills, development and training of the research practitioner workforce within the Trust. The post holder will ensure the implementation of team objectives to enhance the performance and development of the research practitioner team and act as a role model for the research practitioner team. The post holder will work with the team to facilitate the Trust research aims at a local level being mindful of the effective use of resources to ensure timely set up and delivery of studies to agreed targets.

Leadership and management of a newly formed team within the Research and Development Department. This team will be made up of experienced Research Practitioners from Bands 3 to 6, working across the Trust sites, carrying out Clinical Research in a number of diverse disease areas. We already have an enviable track record in these two areas and hope to consolidate this by increasing our recruitment to all research studies, especially the prestigious commercial research commissioned by the life sciences industry.

The role will also be expected to manage their own portfolio of clinical research studies, with an emphasis on commercial studies and they will also take the lead role in setting up and managing new studies.

As part of their line management duties, the Senior Research Practitioner will develop more junior staff to be able to take over the running of these studies in the future.

For these reasons, we are looking for an accomplished research practitioner with experience of working on a range of studies and the aptitude to nurture and guide a team with a mixed range of experience and skill.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Job Description

Essential Functions:

• Assist lead CRC in developing source document templates in Microsoft Word, Excel, or similar program. Source documents should be routinely maintained to reflect accurate information that is required of sponsors by verifying against eCRF software.
• Completes relevant data collection, entry and analysis as and when needed.
• Coordinates the efforts of case finding and recruitment of study patients.
• Create, organize, submit, and maintain all pertinent study documents, records, and logs from start-up to study closure between sponsor and other offices. Documents would include regulatory documents, contracts, temperature logs, budgets, licenses, training documentation, etc.
• Creates and maintains study and subject specific case report forms. Develop data collection worksheets that ensure complete collection of data which can be accurately transmitted by data entry staff.
• Demonstrates the ability to work in collaboration with other members of the Clinical Research Team to provide safe quality care to our subject population and efficiently complete daily responsibilities which include the following:

POSITION SUMMARY: Plans, initiates, coordinates, implements, and oversees clinical trials within the LGHealth Research Institute under the direction of the clinical Principal Investigator (PI) who is responsible for the overall conduct and management of the clinical trial. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

• Maintains adequate inventory of study supplies. Oversees and maintains drug and medical device accountability according to regulatory guidelines for receipt, storage, dispensation, and return of investigational product according to SOPs policy on Investigational Drug/Device Accountability.
• Collaborates with other Research Coordinators, particularly in areas where clinical and non-clinical research areas interface.  Contributes to the mentoring of new research staff.  Functions as a resource for physicians, other health care providers, and ancillary support staff regarding care of the research participant as it relates to any given clinical research protocol; conducts staff in-services as appropriate.                         
• Coordinates and manages the patient assessments according to protocol standards at LGHealth locations, in a clinically safe and regulatory compliant manner.  Utilizes clinical knowledge and assessment skills necessary to evaluate, report, and record accurate medical information including response to therapy according to approved research protocol.
• Develops and maintains rapport with patients to promote adherence to treatment and data collection protocols.   Coordinates participant tests and procedures and maintains study timelines in data collection and completion of case report forms.
• Assures collected data for any approved research protocol is correct, sufficient, all inclusive, regulatory compliant and the integrity is intact.    Maintains study files in accordance with sponsor requirements and LGH SOP Policies, including consent forms, source documentation, narrative notes if applicable, case report forms, and investigational material accountability forms.
• Assures the source documentation of all research activities is completed and accessible for CRF completion, reporting purposes, and for site visits by Sponsors and other regulatory agencies.  Facilitates, conducts and oversees monitoring visits with Sponsors and other related agencies for the purpose of evaluating the accuracy and quality of the collected data.
• Maintains effective and ongoing communication with Sponsor, research participants and PI during the course of the study.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

• Other duties as assigned.
• Performs rotating evening and weekend On Call coverage for active research trials if required.
• Travels to various LGHealth facilities as required to execute trials.   Travels to investigator and clinical research coordinator meetings.
• Attends and participates in research team meetings; educational research and clinically relevant workshops; and sessions provided by LGH to maintain skill sets, knowledge base, and continuing educational credits for both  licensure and research certification renewals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•  Bachelor’s degree in a health science or related field (eg, biology, public health, healthcare administration).
• Two (2) years’ experience in a research or clinical environment.
• Working knowledge of medical and research terminology.
• Comprehension of Federal Regulations for Human Subjects in research.
• Comprehension and certification in Good Clinical Practices (ICH/GCP) for human research.
• Computer Competency including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, electronic data capture and electronic health records (EHR) navigation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Research professional certification (CCRP) or willingness to pursue certification.

Job Description:

The general functions of this Research Assistant position include coordinating study activities, conducting participant recruitment, interviews, and lab sessions, monitoring participant daily symptom tracking, collecting and transporting urine specimens, and managing data for the National Institute of Mental Health-funded grant, “Distinct Steroid Mechanisms of Menstrual Cycle Exacerbation of Psychopathology.”

This study takes place in the lab of Dr. Jessica Peters and examines biologically based behavioral mechanisms through which the menstrual cycle may exacerbate various psychological symptoms. The study utilizes urine samples, daily symptom tracking, and several in-person lab sessions involving lab tasks (including training on administering executive functioning tests) and self-report questionnaires to examine these questions. This position involves in depth training on the complexities of conducting menstrual cycle research, and is ideal for someone looking to pursue this or related areas of research and/or practice.

If of interest, RAs in the Peters lab have opportunities to present at conferences and/or contribute to publications. The RA may also be offered the opportunity, depending on funding availability, of working on related studies within the lab, and/or studies examining brief interventions to improve resiliency in LGTBQ+ suicidal adolescents. The study and lab are within the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University, and the RA will gain exposure broadly to how research functions within a large academic medical center.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 7/1/2025 which may be extended based upon available funding.

Education and Experience

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Pre-Med, or related field.

• 1-2 years of human-subjects research experience including participant engagement, conducting data collection, or data management.

• Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with IRBs

• Familiarity with REDCap, Qualtrics, or similar data collection services

• Experience administering laboratory behavioral tasks (e.g., E-Prime, Inquisit)

• Familiarity with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and/or R
