1) Faculty Co-ordinator for timetabling

Project Overview

The AMR IRG is an interdisciplinary community of biologists, engineers, and clinicians from MIT and Singapore, sharing a state-of-the art research facility and united by a commitment to providing a supportive intellectual environment where students and staff can learn, grow, and contribute to solving a pressing societal problem.

The objective of this project is to advance the field of RNA analysis by developing and implementing innovative analytical tools. These tools will be used in a comprehensive study of all forms of RNA -- the ribonucleome -- and the >170 RNA modifications -- the epitranscriptome -- in disease pathobiology, host-pathogen interactions, biomarker development, and therapeutic target discovery.

Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will plan and conduct experiments with the aim of studying the roles of RNA modifications in human immunue diseases. The candidate will work primarily on cell culture, RNA isolation, and chromatography-coupled mass spectrometry analysis. Tasks:

• Conduct literature reviews on the use of digital technologies and AI applications in public health, focusing on dengue and Covid-19 prevention, monitoring, and control.

Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a research fellow to join the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at the National University of Singapore (NUS) launched on 5 September 2024, the first of its kind in Asia to advance research in alternative proteins. Led by experts from NUS and research institutes in Singapore, the Centre aims to drive global food security and accelerate regional innovation. The focus will be on microalgae research and biomass fermentation, to produce high-quality, affordable, and sustainable microbial proteins from microalgae and biomass fermentation that can be further developed into cultured meat and plant-based protein hybrids. Microbial proteins will be cultivated through fermentation and processed using emerging bio-physical techniques for effective biotransformation, to improve digestibility, flavour, and nutritional profile. As a research fellow, you will lead projects to optimise microalgae cultivation processes and apply bio-physical techniques to improve nutritional and organoleptic properties. Appointments will be initially made on a 1-year contract, renewable for up to 5 years.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct research activities in accordance with the Centre objectives involving but not limited to:
i. Conversion of industrial food side-streams into media suitable for microalgae cultivation.

Qualifications

- A PhD degree in food science, bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, microbiology, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on-experience in any of the following areas: single-cell biomass cultivation, chromatographic analytical methods, flow cytometry, upcycling of food side-streams, bioreactor or fermenter operation, qPCR, design of experiments, in vitro digestibility studies, single-cell downstream processing. Other areas where the candidate can prove its utility towards microalgae/biomass fermentation for food applications are also welcome.
- Proven track record in peer-reviewed research publications and presentations at international conferences.
- Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate within a culturally diverse and cross-disciplinary team, and other stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities
Research:

• Carry out assigned experiments under initial guidance and then independently
• Organize, preserve, and present the results of the experiments in a logical manner
• Record all assigned experiments and results properly and systematically
• Analyse data and design subsequent experimental workflow
• Assist in supervising, training and guiding attachment/undergraduate students as required

Administrative duties:

• Assist with lab housekeeping and administrative duties as needed
• Ensure that standard operating procedures and safety regulations are followed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in molecular biology, cancer biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related field
• Interest in pursuing a research career in studying RNA biology in cancer
• To be a team player with the ability to work collaboratively with other members of the lab.
• Experience in running projects independently is preferred.
• Experience in laboratory management is preferred but not essential.
• Ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken English
• Knowledge in cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques (western blotting/ RT-PCR etc)
• Proficiency/ expertise in data analysis (R or equivalent)
