About the role

You will help to deliver an innovative neuro-oncology research project; developing a new preclinical in vivo model of NF2-null meningioma and investigating immunotherapies. The project involves using single-cell RNA-sequencing and murine models of NF2-null tumours, patient-derived xenograft drug screening and validation with a variety of wet-lab techniques. This role is advertised on a fixed-term basis for 2.5 years due to external funding.

The role will be ideally suited to an early-career researcher who is motivated to join a vibrant neuro-oncology research community at the University of Plymouth’s Brain Tumour Research centre of excellence.

Essential:

• Ph.D (or close to completion) in neuro-oncology, immunology or other closely related and relevant subject.
• Competence in a variety of laboratory techniques.
• Extensive knowledge of cancer cell biology and tumour-associated immune cells.
• Skill in protocol development and optimisation.

Desirable:

• Experience in animal research and/or UK Home Office PIL A/B + C (rodents).
• Experience in single-cell RNA-sequencing and/or other omics techniques.
• Bioinformatics skills.
• First-author publications and/or other demonstrable research impacts.

Our Research:

The Parkinson lab’s neuro-oncology research focus centres around NF2-null nervous system tumours; meningioma, schwannoma and ependymoma. We have access to an excellent biobank of primary tumour cells, and use genetic and xenograft murine models to drive translational preclinical research.

We are looking for a researcher to join our research team to investigate the benefits of plant bioactive compounds on animal productivity in a collaborative project with academic and industrial partners. The project is addressing the huge wastage of plant crops that occurs during their processing, through the development of innovative and sustainable valorisation strategies that convert agri-food waste streams into next-generation feed additives to increase animal health and productivity.

In particular, you will focus on the extraction and analysis of phytochemicals from differently processed raw materials and encapsulated formulations, using a range of methodologies, to evaluate their potential for application as feed ingredients.

You will have an undergraduate or masters degree in Food Science and Nutrition, Food Science and Technology, or a closely allied discipline, and a strong background in experimental plant bioactive research with good analytical skills, e.g. chromatography, spectroscopy and bioactivity screening methods. The Women’s Health Research Centre (WHRC) at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust / Imperial College London is at the forefront of research aimed at improving outcomes and experiences in women's reproductive health and childbirth.

At the current time, WHRC is looking to appoint a Clinical Research Assistant Practitioner to work on the Generation Study which is sponsored by Genomics England. The study focuses on screening neonates for approximately 200 rare conditions at birth using umbilical cord blood. The postholder will assist with sample collection, data management and registration of participants whilst adhering to the principles of GCP. The role will also involve ordering consumables and supporting the research team with participant recruitment.

The postholder of this new role will work within the WHRC research team and be able to develop specialist research skills with new opportunities in a vibrant and dynamic environment. There may be opportunities to work on a variety of other projects within the areas of gynaecology and maternity and the ideal candidate will have interest in the improvement of women’s health, an enthusiasm to learn, attention to detail and a willingness to work collaboratively.

We are looking for curious, organised, and enthusiastic graduate calibre candidates to embark on a journey to start your career! This is a full-time permanent job opportunity with a 6-month training programme included.

You'll be working for an international firm specialising in tracing missing and unknown beneficiaries to unclaimed estates, property, and assets worldwide. The main aim of the position is to support the companies' researchers in the quest to find long lost heirs and beneficiaries through archive research. As well as supporting with other legal services, researching documents such as wills, birth certificates, estate documentation connected with probate.

As this is a trainee programme, we are not looking for particular previous experience, but the successful candidates will show the following attributes: excellent communication skills, attention to detail, problem solving skills, the ability to cope under pressure and work autonomously. Climate change is one of the most pressing concerns we have. Understanding the biological basis of how this affects health of the offspring born to mothers that experience extremes of heat and figuring how we can mitigate against these are critical to ensure healthy babies. We are using an interdisciplinary approach combining novel in vitro 3D approaches to mimic maternal and embryo interactions as well as comparative approaches to determine how acute heat stress alters life-course health in offspring. The candidate will be training in state of the start 3D in vitro models as well as Omics approaches including single cell RNA and ATAC sequencing.
