An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Docking Ward team as a Deputy Sister.
Docking Ward is a Surgical Ward specializing in Vascular Surgery. We are a friendly and welcoming team who are committed to ensuring we provide the highest standard of care to patients on the ward.
We are looking for somebody who is enthusiastic and highly motivated, strives to improve patient experience, leads by example and is a positive and influential role model to the team. The successful candidate will work alongside the Ward Manager and current Deputy Sisters to develop managerial/ leadership skills including, recruitment, retention, management of staff, attendance management, and clinical audit.
Post holder will be expected to work a varied shift pattern which will include nights and weekends. Flexible working available and can be discussed at interview.
Secondment opportunity also available if desired.

To be responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high quality patient care, by providing professional, clinical and managerial leadership. To take charge of the Ward/Department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse and provide support and guidance to all staff.
• Support to complete the SCEC Band 6 competency pack and progress in a leadership role
• Dedicated Band 6 study days within the division
• You will be adaptable and ambitious, and will help lead on development and delivery of high standards of nursing care

• Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.
Assist the Ward/Department manager in maintaining standards of nursing practice.
• Carry out and advise/supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care.
• Carry out the daily personal care of patients.
• To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Ward/Department Sister/ Charge Nurse.
• To ensure the patient administration systems e.g. PAS are up-dated to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.
• To ensure the effective use of information technology for the benefit of patient care in accordance with the Trust’s Cyber Code of Conduct.
• To ensure the confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic) is maintained, whilst being aware of the Freedom for Information Act.
• To co-ordinate and monitor the progress of patients within their plan of care and to promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status to the multi-disciplinary team.
• Effectively communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to the multi-disciplinary team gaining their co-operation.
• To ensure that all staff adhere to Trust policies and the principles of their professional body.
• To manage complaints in accordance with the Trust’s Complaints Procedure.
• To assist in the development of patient information liaising with PALS as necessary.
• Use leadership skills to create an environment that is safe and supportive to ensure effective teamwork and a motivated, efficient workforce.
• Gain awareness of resource management and departmental budgets utilising allocated resources appropriately.
• Conduct staff appraisal using constructive performance review and establish Personal Development Plans
