Job Summary: The primary focus of the role is to work as an autonomous practitioner providing high quality and timely patient centred care. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral and discharge of a diverse range of patients with minor injuries/minor illnesses, without reference to a doctor and within their level of competence and agreed protocols. Clinical Care: Act as an Urgent Care Paramedic Practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competence and a knowledge base beyond those associated with conventional roles. Triage patients. Undertake consultations with patients either by e-Consultation, telephone triage or face to face, as an autonomous practitioner and using own clinical judgement to diagnose, treat, refer and/or discharge patients. The services within directorate portfolios are delivered predominantly at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital, with a smaller proportion delivered at Christchurch Hospital and in other community/hospital sites across Dorset via Service Level Agreements.

The post will be integrated into the elective and emergency workload of the department. The successful candidates will work alongside the FY1/2, nurse practitioners, and Middle Grade and Consultant teams covering elective and emergencies in the surgical department. Successful candidates will have full support from their teams and supervisors so they can gain the appropriate experience and knowledge in elective and emergency surgery and progress into the next step of their careers. This will include access to clinics, theatre, on calls and ward rounds in both elective and emergency settings. The full educational programme will be discussed and adjusted at the beginning of the placement to meet the post takers training needs. Educational supervision will be available and study leave provided to support the development of your career.

Experience in research is not essential as full training will be given. You will be supported by the Senior Research Nurse for the division along with a host of research professionals to work alongside.
