Paediatric Neurodisability Health Care Assistant

*A rare opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 to join our team of HCAs as part of the Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Team at St Giles School*

Tulip- The Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Service have a Special School Nursing Team based out of St Giles School. The role will support CYP with disabilities and complex health needs to attend school by delivering daily planned healthcare interventions. HCAs support with enteral feeding, catheter and stoma care, assisting the nurses with the delivery of respiratory symptom management plans and the administration of risk assessed medications during the school day. The role comes with training and support offering the completion of the HCA care certificate as part of the initial preceptorship period.

Additional non-clinical tasks include reviewing continence needs and product provision via the Tena, Indigo system, management of stock and equipment including Nutricia Homeward, monitoring and recording of regular heights and weights and support during the delivery of public health clinics held at the school.

Please note this role isMonday- Friday 32.5hrs per week term time only 08.45-15.45and the salary will therefore be pro rata at 77% of the total AFC Band 3 with HCAs outer London allowance.



The Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Team provides co-ordination and case management of children with highly complex and unstable long-term conditions in partnership with health, education and social care organisations.

The aim of the service is to provide a dedicated specialist children’s nurse to promote standards of excellence and manage the clinical risk of complex, unstable and vulnerable children in the community within the context of family centred care thereby reducing the need for secondary care interventions.

The Special School Nursing Pathwayfacilitates children and young people with healthcare needs, between the ages of 2 and 19 years of age, to access the education curriculum. The Band 3 healthcare assistants support the staff nurses to provide nursing care to children and young people with complex medical needs and learning disabilities carrying out daily clinical care as allocated by the nurse in charge. The post holder will work between the special schools in Croydon and be based at St Giles School.

Croydon Health Services Trust provides a broad range of elective and emergency services to a population of almost 400,000 across the borough of Croydon and delivered across Croydon University Hospital (450-bed inpatient) and Purley War Memorial Hospital (outpatient).



The department wishes to appoint a fixed term trust grade Senior House Officer in General Surgery and Urology for a provisional 6-month fixed term, which can be extended up to a maximum of 2 years. This post is intended to provide both service and surgical training alongside formal postgraduate SHO trainees within the department. Educational supervision will be offered and postholders will be encouraged to pursue the Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training (CREST) in order to support application for Higher Surgical Training. Postholders will be expected to engage in departmental education, research and governance activities. Allocation to surgical subspecialty firm will be confirmed after interview and dependant on current vacancies and departmental needs. Postholders are intended to rotate through different surgical subspecialties – Colorectal, Upper GI, Urology and Vascular.



The postholder will participate in a resident full shift pattern 1-in-12 on-call rota covering both General Surgery and Urology, including 12-hour day and night shifts. In addition, the postholder will contribute to a 1-in-12 “Hot Clinic” providing care for ambulatory surgical patients.

Job Summary: The post holder will: Provide Hospice at Home and Community Services delivered by the hospice multi professional team, and supported by Marie Curie night service. Support and implement the delivery of the hospice at home service to patients within a community setting as part of a team and under the direction of a registered nurse Job Summary: 1. Clinical Carry out agreed support visits face-to-face and review these over the phone as required Establish and maintain communication with people on routine care matters Act as interface for new referrals to H@H community services To undertake a broad range of nursing support activities and duties relating to the support of patients with end of life care needs, usually in their own homes. Have an understanding of the philosophy and ethos behind the care provided at Wirral Hospice St Johns, and to assist the registered practitioners in developing and maintaining a safe, caring and supportive environment for patients, relatives and staff. Ability to recognise changes in patients conditions and act appropriately follow guidances/ report to appropriate health practitioners. In accordance with the Hospice at Homes processes/systems /guidelines and as defined by the Hospice at Home health practitioner, with minimum direct supervision. Establish and maintain effective communications with patients, carers and health professionals in a professional manner. Work in collaboration with your colleagues to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare so care and support are utilised appropriately within the service delivery plan. In line with Hospice policies on patient documentation, updates patient records ensuring entries are accurate, relevant and contemporaneous and hand over care given appropriately. Provides emotional and practical support to patients carers or family members Offers basic support /contact family members/ carers after patients death, when appropriate. 2. Personal / Professional Development . To engage in regular Team meetings To engage in team reflective practice opportunities To engage in annual appraisal process including identifying learning needs and development opportunities. Completing Hospice Mandatory Training within required time frames through required medium. Complete additional training as identified by line manager Identifying and attending training as identified in annual appraisal process. Taking part in reflective practice and in-house training opportunities Provide support to new Healthcare Assistants and Volunteers. IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Driving Licence/Use of Own Vehicle: As driving forms part of your duties it is an express condition of your employment with the Hospice that:- i) You have your own vehicle and use it to undertake your duties; and ii) You hold and continue to hold a valid driving licence of the relevant class at all times. It is your responsibility to ensure that your own vehicle is properly insured to cover your duties, covered by a valid MOT certificate and has a valid road tax at all times. You must provide a copy of the insurance certificate to the Facilities Department. You must produce your licence for inspection upon request and ensure that you take all necessary steps to continue to hold the licence. If you lose your licence for any reason you must notify your Manager immediately. If you lose your driving licence and are unable to make alternative arrangements to fulfil your duties which are satisfactory to the Hospice your continued employment may be at risk. Assistant Psychologist

Fixed Term = 12 months

To enhance the provision of a Clinical Neuropsychology service to individuals with FND /Stroke and to their carers, working as a member of the Neuropsychology service.


To provide psychological assessments including standardised neuropsychological assessments and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified clinical
psychologist and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.


To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.


To participate in the preparation and delivery of group education programmes, under the
supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.

We are looking for an assistant psychologist to join the Clinical Neuropsychology Service and the Acute Stroke Service .



The role is based primarily in the community where the Clinical Neuropsychology team working alongside the friendly Community Neuro-Rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team. Referrals are received from a number of sources including the Croydon University Hospital
neurologists and stroke service, and community sources such as GPs and social workers. The referrals are for a range of neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain tumours, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease. The role includes administrative duties such as carrying out tasks related to data collection and analysis, arranging appointments and other office duties. It also involves direct clinical work. There will be regular supervision from a qualified clinical
psychologist, offering the opportunity to develop clinical skills in acute stroke, knowledge and experience. There will be opportunities to carry out psychological interviews, mood screens, neuropsychological assessments using standardised tools and facilitating psycho-educational groups.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES 1. Provide a high standard of nursing care to children with complex needs / additional medical needs in schools across CHS as requested by the registered nurse once trained and competency achieved. 2. Carry out risk assessed clinical care on a daily basis as allocated by the nursing staff, including but not inclusive of, enteral feeding, tracheostomy care, stoma care, catheterisation, suctioning and wound care. 3. Contribute to effective team work to best manage the delivery of care to children and young people who have additional medical needs or learning disabilities. 4. Maintain accurate paper and electronic records relating to client care as per CHS Policy. 5. Give advice to parents / carers, school staff and others within agreed parameters and appropriate to the scale of the post. 6. Re-assess and order incontinence products for the children at the Special Schools, with liaison with parents / carers. 7. Oversee stock checks alongside the team administrator and ensure appropriate levels of equipment is ordered via Nutricia and CHS procurement routes, ensure value for money for the Trust. 8. Assist with minor injuries and report to trained member of staff. 9. Help with the care of unwell children, record observations once trained and provide reassurance to the child.
