We are recruiting student midwives to become registered midwives with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The course is funded by NHS England, paying your tuition fees and offering salary support at mid band 5 with no enhancements. You will be learning to provide midwifery care in a variety of settings under direct supervision of a midwife practice supervisor. You will attend the University of Hertfordshire for theoretical teaching.

The 21.5 month full time, BSc /Master of Midwifery (MMID) Shortened Programme at the University of Hertfordshire commences on the6thof January 2025, concludes on the 28thof August 2026. You will be employed on a fixed term contract for the duration of the course.

Course consists of:

50 practice weeksin a variety of clinical placements including community, low risk birth centre, High risk labour ward, ante and postnatal wards and maternity theatres. Practice weeks consist of 30 hours clinical and 10 hours theory.

8 theory weeks, consisting of four, 2 week blocks at the university.

2 weeks personal development time.

9 programme and practice reflection weeks.

10 weeks annual leave over the programme

On completion you will be a competent, caring, evidence-based midwife, capable of delivering effective woman-centred care for mothers and their families.

Band 5 Senior Pharmacy Technician – Medicines Management

This post is based on Barnet Hospital of the Royal Free Hospital Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and adaptable Pharmacy Technician with good communication and interpersonal skills to take on this challenging post. Your role will involve working with Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and other health care professionals on providing Medicines Management services at ward level.

The post holder will support the ward pharmacists to carry out medicines reconciliation for our newly admitted patients and the assessment of patients own drugs. You will support the day-to-day coordination of the satellite pharmacy by providing original pack dispensing, patient counselling and co-ordination of the supply of discharge medicines to our patients.

You will be an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) and a qualified Medicine Management Pharmacy Technician. You must have evidence of registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and have good post qualification experience working as a Pharmacy Technician within an NHS Hospital Pharmacy.

The post holder will ensure that the Medicines Management is delivered in a safe, effective, economic, and timely manner. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all documentation and procedures are carried out in accordance with current legislation and guidelines.

Medicines Management will include supporting medicines optimisation at ward level. They will support the Pharmacy Technician Specialist (Medicines Management) in developing and maintaining the medicines management service at ward level. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• The delivery of a high-quality stock dispensing service and promotion of pharmacy stores service.
• To liaise with storekeepers and Procurement staff with regards to stock issues, urgent requirements, and delivery inaccuracies.
• To ensure that all stock dispensing records are complete and accurate and are attributed to the correct medical team or Consultant.
• To ensure standard operating procedures (SOP’s) are followed and raise any issues to Stores and Distribution Manager with regards to any SOP’s required or in need of amending.

• Promotion of high-quality cost-effective stock supply.

• To assist with the return of unused stock drugs according to the local ‘returns policy’
• To supervise the cancellation of computer/issue errors and liaises with the computer team to rectify any associated problems.
• To implement a robust system for checking expiry dates and maintaining effective stock rotation for stock in the stores/dispensary.
• To ensure that all drugs for destruction are dealt with according to Health and Safety and departmental procedures.
• To maintain legal records e.g. Controlled Drug Registers.
• To oversee a system for the safe storage and easy retrieval of prescriptions and requisitions where appropriate.
• To ensure that stock is ordered for the stores/dispensary in a cost effective manner, taking into account changes in prescribing practices, items newly approved for inclusion in the hospital Formulary and seasonal fluctuations in drug usage.

RESPONSIBILITY FORLEADING AND MANAGING

To work closely with the Stores and Distribution Manager to manage and support the development of the team of Storekeepers, Assistant Technical officers (ATO’s), Pre-registration pharmacy technicians/pharmacists and Portering staff.
• To produce and frequently update procedures for the stock supply of medications to wards and departments within Barnet Hospital.
• To identify and prioritise services to individual and groups of staff according to agreed policies.
• To implement and maintain an effective system for tracking the progress of stock requisitions/orders and communicating with ward/department staff of the progress of urgent medicines.
• To implement a satisfactory ‘To Follow’ service.
• To participate in the technician-checking scheme for accredited technicians.
• To act as an effective role model and to provide pharmaceutical advice and support to members of the multidisciplinary team



RESPONSIBILITY FORINFORMATION RESOURCES
• To accurately input data into the pharmacy computer system to produce labels and dispense medication (via the JAC system)
• To be familiar with the hospital electronic discharge summaries, and all relevant procedures including the EPMA system
• To act as a super user for the Automated Dispensing Machine inputting new barcodes and updating the database
• To manage inpatient workflow with an efficient use of PTS monitoring with the dispensary team.





RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT


• To support the relevant medical, nursing and pharmacy staff to ensure that clinical trials are run efficiently.

EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• To contribute to the departmental appraisal and development programme for storekeepers, assistant technical officers and pharmacy porters based in the stores and distribution area.
• Provision and evaluation of the induction and competency based training for new staff.
• To provide on-going training to ensure procedures and legal and professional guidelines are adhered to and followed at all times.
• To train staff in the use of the departmental computer systems, databases and the linked Automated Dispensing machine.
• To act as an A1 Assessor for candidates of the NVQ levels 2 and 3 in Pharmacy.
• To act as an ACPT facilitator to facilitate ACPT course to new candidates according to Trust’s guideline.
• To contribute to the education and training of pharmacy, medical, nursing staff and other healthcare workers.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and registered professional with a passion for service development and a clinical background of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. This new role is part of an exciting expansion of the Barnet CEN Pathway.

The remit of the new DBT Service is to offer Barnet residents referred into the service a consistent evidence-based therapeutic approach, to reduce inpatient admissions and to support the quick transitions of those in an inpatient service back into the community.

This new role will ensure the systematic provision of a high- quality specialist Dialectical Behaviour Therapy service and you will be supported by the Barnet Younger Adult Psychological Services and Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) pathway.



You will work closely with the Barnet CEN pathway team and the Barnet Psychology service (BAP)

The role will include service development for this new service, agree pathways,governance, reporting on implementation and agreed outcomes, as well as to supervise and support the screening, referrals, assessments and group or individual therapy provided by other clinical members of the DBT team.

· To provide highly specialist DBT psychological assessments of clients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

· To be responsible for implementing a range of DBT psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

· To ensure that all members of the treating team have access to DBT andpsychologically based framework for understanding and care of clients of the service, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of psychological research and theory.

We are seeking a medical consultant for our newly established Virtual Ward with an Acute medicine focus (1.5 PAs) combined with a Rheumatology specialty role (4.5 PAs).

This is an exciting role providing clinical oversight to support management of patients on the Virtual Ward and further development of the Virtual Ward model in line with local and national strategy.

A Virtual Ward is a safe and efficient alternative to NHS bedded care enabled by technology, supporting patients who would otherwise be in hospital to receive acute care, monitoring and treatment in their own home. The national ambition is that all systems will create capacity of 40-50 Virtual Ward beds per 100,000 population an ambition we are looking to achieve.

In Barnet the Virtual Ward went live in early 2023 and provides specialist led care for a variety of patients including those with respiratory conditions, frailty and acute kidney injury. There is anticipated expansion into a number of other areas during 2024/25 and a plan to increase both capacity and occupancy. This care is provided to them in the comfort of their own homes using an advanced personal remote monitoring platform, and in reaching hospital at home nurses enabling them to safely leave hospital sooner.

Alongside Virtual Ward and Acute Medicine we are able to offer 4.5 PAs per week in our Rheumatology Speciality running mainly outpatient clinics and once weekly ward inpatient advice/cove whilst exploring service development opportunities.

The Head of Finance will lead the finance support for Social Care, Education and Public Health, providing professional high level strategic advice to the City Mayor, the Executive, Scrutiny, and the Corporate Management Team. Ensuring the delivery of an efficient, effective and compliant finance function, promoting the efficient use of resources across the Council and deputise for the Director of Finance.

Main responsibilities

• Leadership and People Management:

• Lead and develop council employees, including subject matter experts, casual workers, and volunteers, through effective people and performance management.

• Financial Planning and Strategic Oversight:

• Collaborate with strategic and divisional directors to prepare and monitor revenue and capital budgets for social care, education, and public health divisions.

• Resource Maximisation and Compliance:

Candidate Requirements

• Extensive experience in Local Government finance, particularly in children's and education sectors, is essential. Understanding and supporting the setting of budgets for schools maintained by the Council is crucial.

• Proven ability to formally manage and develop council employees, including subject matter experts, and supervise activities of matrix-managed staff, casual workers, and volunteers. Experience in fostering a culture of continuous improvement through coaching and mentoring.

• Demonstrated expertise in preparing and monitoring revenue and capital budgets for social care, education, and public health divisions. Ability to provide strategic financial support to major projects and programs, ensuring financial integrity and value for money.

• Strong technical management skills, including the ability to monitor, review, and interrogate actual and forecast revenue and capital spending. Proficiency in providing strategic financial analysis and advice to senior council officers and external partnership boards.
