The Imperial Memory Unit (IMU) has been running clinical trials for over ten years, focusing on disease modifying treatment trials in early Alzheimer’s disease but also including observations studies and trials of advanced diagnostics.

The Clinical Research Nurse post holder will be responsible for coordinating clinical trials relating to dementia and the post holder will be responsible for preparing/delivering clinical trial medication. The Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials medications at IMU are predominantly delivered by intravenous infusions; therefore, it is a requirement that the post holder is IV competent. The post holder will act as a blinded nurse and un-blinded nurse for specific studies taking place at the imperial memory research unit.

Other responsibilities will include helping in the recruitment of patients, coordination of patients participating in clinical research, collection of research data and carrying out clinical observations relevant to the study protocol. It is desirable that the post holder has experience in using clinical rating scales in Alzheimer’s disease (e.g. MMSE, CDR, ADAS-Cog) or are willing to be trained on neuropsychological assessments. They will also be expected to develop skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical research.

The majority of time will be spent in a hospital research clinic setting. The post holder will facilitate high standards of nursing care and work closely with the other departments in the hospital such as pharmacy, Imaging and other research teams.
• Identifies potential patients for clinical research.
• Determines eligibility of potential patients.
• Ensures all pre-study tests are undertaken and results obtained.
• Acts as patients advocate in obtaining informed consent in the first instance and as the trial progresses/unfolds.
• Provides written and verbal information to patients and families on the concept of clinical research and detailed education regarding the objectives, scientific rationale, treatment, Investigations and follow-up for specific clinical research projects.
• Provides direct patient care within the expanded role of clinical trials (e.g. advanced history taking).
• Systematically documents patient information in the medical notes.

You will support the Head of Inclusive Learning in managing the overall Inclusive Learning Service to meet the College’s Strategic and Operational objectives. You will lead, develop, and manage a high-quality, cost-effective admissions and support service for learners requiring Additional Needs and work in partnership with Specialist Services, both internally and externally alongside curriculum colleagues to ensure support is of a consistent high standard. You will lead, develop and manage the implementation of relevant legislation in relation to young people at College and manage assessment of learners for inclusive support requirements, including Maths and English access arrangements.

We’d like our Inclusive Learning Manager to have a successful and proven track record in managing support services for learners with sensory impairments, social & emotional, mental health issues, physical disabilities, and medical conditions, enhancing students’ success, including detailed knowledge of the EHCP process. You will have a successful record of leading and managing staff and have a track record in delivering staff development training and other identifiable personal achievements.

You will have good working knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Equality Act 2010, Children & Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice and the implications for the Learning Support Service. You will have experience in managing support funding and budgets, leading and managing staff and of implementing and developing quality systems that result in improved outcomes.

The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that is due to be implemented imminently.

To act as a lead Health Care Professional to clients allocated at clinical meetings. To work within complex care networks including families, community and in-patient services, care homes, day centres and colleges. To work flexibly to meet the needs of the clients. To lead the development and audit of clinical standards within the nursing service, in relation to best practice. To advise on the clinical and resource issues that are required in order to respond to national and local targets. To contribute to care planning and risk management for adults with learning disabilities. To work within the multi-disciplinary team to carry out assessments and help design interventions for people with learning disabilities. To assess, develop and implement specialist programmes of nursing and social care to meet the needs of a diverse range of clients. To exercise appropriate professional autonomy when working with clients in the community and to provide advice to non-specialists and other specialists/ professionals within the clinical field. To ensure effective interagency working when clients are admitted and discharged from in-patient settings. To provide supervision to junior staff within the team. To contribute to care planning and risk management for adults with learning disabilities who may also present with physical health needs. To provide medication, monitor and administer medications as required. Under supervision, to monitor the progress of agreed treatment plans, prescribed medication, and report back on positive and adverse reactions to the prescribing doctor. To enter information onto RiO and write complex and sensitive reports reflecting specialist knowledge on a regular basis. To collect and compile observations and recordings as required. To provide advice, education, support and supervision to carers. To provide education across agencies and organisations on specialist area To participate in teaching and training as appropriate. To implement and contribute to policy and service development as appropriate. To work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and act within local protocols and trust policies. To offer specialist advice and consultation on client placement issues, including clients placed in and out of borough. To advise and educate clients, carers and relatives (as appropriate) on the implementation of care-plans, health promotion and behavioural guidelines. To act as a first point of contact regarding assessment for clients and carers who access specialist learning disability services.
