• You will serve as a TRAINING SPECIALIST in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT (N3) in the EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL TRAINING AND EVALUATION UNIT TWO (EODTEU TWO) at JOINT EXPEDITIONARY BASE LITTLE CREEK-FORT STORY (JEBLC-FS).
• You will be the command expert on training policy and plans and provide instruction and guidance to command Divisions and Departments on curriculum standards and course development.
• You will interface with the Curriculum Control Authority (CCA} to ensure that training courses support established training and qualification requirements.

Instructs various levels of swimming including various strokes (e.g., front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly, etc.). Teaches students from age groups of infant through adult.

Instructs basic diving, safety and survival skills to students.

Works with lifeguards to ensure swim lessons are safe at all times.

Enforces pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities.

Plans and organizes instruction methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the Aquatics Program Manager and the certifying organization.

Organizes and directs activities of students in order to provide a high level of quality instruction for all pool patrons.

Develops swim program according to student's ability and promotes students to higher level s of swimming according to their skills.

Provides individual feedback to parents/guardians regarding student's swimming developments and achievements.

Provides introductory equipment orientations, when needed.

Inspects equipment used for swim instruction, ensuring they are within the condition required by environmental health standards. Informs supervisor of deficiencies.

Administers aquatic assessment testing and certification in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Navy (DON) and CNIC policy.

Completes and submits records and documentation of completed lessons to the Aquatics Program Manager and the American Red Cross office.

Works with the Aquatics Program Manager on an on-going basis to upgrade, improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective swimming lessons to various age groups and various skill levels.

Prepares and completes accident/incident reports during emergency situations. Notifies management of all emergencies immediately.

Works with hazardous materials (e.g., cleaning agents, pool chemicals, etc.).

Checks identification cards to ensure proper patron usage.

Helps organize and assists in the development of special programs, activities or instruction.

Completes regular cleaning and tidying of equipment used for swim lessons to ensure the maintenance of a safe environment for staff and patrons.

Answers telephone providing information in regards to facility hours of operation, upcoming special events and programs, etc.

Completes the Daily Activity Reports, handling cash where fees apply, verifying the amount of money collected and dropping the cashier bag in the drop safe.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbent plans, designs and instructs a variety of group fitness classes for small and large groups. Participates in brainstorming sessions to develop programs, events and classes for a well-rounded physical fitness program. Keep up to date on the latest fitness trends and developments. Answers questions regarding programs offered through the Fitness Center and or other MWR Facilities/services available to the customer. Continuously evaluates the participation and interest level of fitness classes and programs from the standpoint of participant responses, resources, unforeseen developments, and program objectives. Recommends program changes and variations as necessary to the Fitness Coordinator. Endures cleanliness of exercise spaces and equipment and reports general wear and tear of collateral equipment. In charge of setting up and breaking down room pre and post exercise class.

Knowledge Required by the Position
Must possess and maintain a current CPR and AED Certifications and must possess nationally recognized certification in Group Exercise.

Guidelines
Guidelines include DOD manuals, directives, OPNAV instructions pertaining to physical readiness standards and Standards Operating Procedures. Incumbent will ensure that the Fitness Center operations comply with all OSHA, BUMED, DOD, BUPERS and local safety guidelines.

Scope and Effect
The purpose is to promote maximum participation and interest group fitness activities.

Personal Contacts
The incumbent will interface with all patrons, including active-duty and retired military members, their dependents and authorized DOD civilian personnel as well as other department employees.

Purpose of Contacts
Contacts are for the purpose of educating and motivating current and potential patrons. The incumbent must be able to exercise good judgement and display as sound personal character and cooperative demeanor in serving the military community.

Physical Demands
This position requires a high level of physical fitness and may instruct numerous fitness class per day.

Work Environment
Work is outdoors as well as being performed in a Fitness Center setting. Both settings will require safety precautions to avoid muscle strain or other bodily injury. Indoor work area is will lighted and properly ventilated. Outdoor area will be lighted and stable

Additional duties as assigned

The duties and responsibilities of the CYP Assistant Training Specialist cam be grouped into categories, including training, classroom and program support, compliance, and additional responsibilities as described below.

Training
Assists in the development of a CYP training plan and assists with identifying and addressing training needs.

Assists with orientation training for new CYP employees and CDH providers.

Assists in the execution of Standardized Module Training and completion of orientation, initial and ongoing annual training.

Assists in maintaining training records and individual training plans and preparing training status reports.

Assists in ensuring completion and documentation of required monthly training. Works with CYP Program Assistants to ensure modules are complete.

Encourages and supports continuing higher education of employees and providers. Provides information about the Child Development Associate (CDA), the Military School-Age Credential (MSA) and higher level opportunities. Mentors employees in this effort.

Classroom/Program Support
Assists in supporting and implementing the required Navy curriculum to be used by CYP (i.e. supports implementation and execution of the Navy standardized curriculum within the Child Development Center (CDC), including assisting CY Program Assistants and Leaders by documenting observations and assessments, evaluating classroom environments, reviewing weekly activity plans, and providing additional training when needed).

Assists in ensuring the quality and consistency of developmental programming to include environment, equipment, materials, program structure, curriculum, risk management practices and oversight and coordination of activity schedules and lesson plans.

Assists in coordinating programming that supports the children and youth's physical, social/emotional, cognitive and language development regardless and setting or length of time in care.

Completes monthly classroom observations and assists in providing feedback.

Role models appropriate behaviors and techniques working with children and youth.

Assist in selecting developmentally appropriate toys, materials and equipment.

Helps maintain a resource file library to aid in preparing lesson plans and activity schedules and to assist with training objectives.

Additional Responsibilities
In the absence of the CYP Training Specialist, incumbent may assume Training Specialist responsibilities and perform duties and requirements of the position under the guidance of the CYP Director.

Incumbent is a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect.

• Serves as the Fire Protection Engineer/Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) reporting to the Chief of Protective Services.
• Documents and implements a Center Fire Protection and Life Safety Program designed to protect human life and property from the risk of fire-related hazards.
• Interprets, adapts, and applies numerous codes, regulations, guidelines, precedents and engineering principles and practices to determine most feasible design or possible alternative solutions.
