Administrative Duties

The position will provide anesthesia coverage for all specialties of surgery, beside specializing in cardiac
surgeries in a care team approach. Must have experience with anesthetic management for cardiac,

The BHIP Program Manager provides comprehensive psychiatric care to Veterans referred for Mental Health services within the Psychiatrist's approved privileges. In addition to Veteran care, the Psychiatrist may have responsibilities in other areas such as education and research.

This includes using the computerized medical record system for progress notes, orders, prescriptions, and medical record review and completion of such records in a thorough and timely manner. The incumbent shall have knowledge of and abide by Medical Center Staff Bylaws, VHA Rules and Regulations, and be familiar with existing VA clinical practice guidelines.
• Fulfillments for employment and credentials as determined by the DC VAMC, Mental Health Service. This includes completing mandatory and continuing education requirements and maintaining an active medical license from a state, territory, possession or district of the United States of America.
• Will have successfully completed a psychiatric residency training program accredited by the ACGME, AOA, or both. For other clinical privileges, requirements for training and/or certification must also be met according to established standards of the facility's Professional Standards Board.
• Will remain cognizant of new medical developments and medical literature, and must meet facility and licensing requirements for continuing medical education (CME). The responsibility to complete timely renewal of medical license, credentials, application for privileging and re-privileging, board certification and completion of needed CME credits remains with the physician.
• Psychiatry physicians as assigned are responsible for duty for emergent and/or triage functions for walk-in patients. Physicians have a responsibility to accommodate assigned patients' emergent needs. Phone calls, administrative forms completion and other patient requests are to be completed in a timely manner - in most cases by the end of the workday. Physicians will be assigned on-call duties and have a responsibility to comply with the procedures regarding on-call responsibilities.
• Psychiatry physicians are active participants in the supervision of medical students, residents and fellows. Supervision of trainees is a component of the physician's responsibility.
• Supervision includes review of pertinent history and examination findings, discussion of all patients during inpatient, clinic supervision or on-call responsibilities, and review of patient care and treatment decisions.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

• The Chief of Vascular is the clinical expert for all vascular services. The incumbent will supervise the surgeons, and APP's along with the Diagnostic Radiology Technicians who report to Surgery.
• Establishes effective operational policies, procedures, methods and work schedules to maintain access to timely care consistent with VHA goals.
• Directs the planning and coordination of vascular clinics across the facility and works with other Service Lines of the Medical Center and CBOC's to ensure that the veterans total needs are met and that the standard of clinical care provided meets or exceeds community standards.
• Develops business plans and workload analysis to support staffing models for additional resources and expansion.
• Works with other attending section chiefs, attending practitioners, NP's, PA's, nurses, residents, medical students' and members of various teams including Podiatry, Primary Care and Orthopedics to facilitate a comprehensive and interdisciplinary team approach, reflecting the highest level of patient care: Interprets and maintains standards published by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Joint Commission.
• Evaluates the quality of appropriateness of care as an integral part of the overall Medical Center quality management program. This includes participation in medical center meetings, VISN meetings and national meetings that directly involve the Vascular Section.
• Supervising practitioner for students and residents who rotate through the Vascular Service line. Clinical duties include but are not limited to Operating Room (experience in a wide variety of podiatric surgical procedures), in-patient rounds, Emergency Room, and Inpatient/ Outpatient clinical visits.
• Participate in surgical quality/performance improvement initiatives as appropriate.
• Manage all aspects of clinic, emergency room, CLC, and inpatient wards. Coordinates assessment of veteran complaints and service recovery efforts as well as coordination of Medical Advisory Opinions as needed.
• Dually appointed with CMC VAMC and the Hospital University of Pennsylvania. Incumbent has oversight responsibility for the medical school students and residents within vascular services.
• Oversees Vascular specific time utilization to include appropriate prioritization of cases among all practitioners in Vascular, manage prospective waiting times for procedures, and assures completion of all practitioner documentation.
• Responsible for all FPPE/OPPE reviews internally and externally, along with completing all performance reviews for staff within the section. Incumbent collaborates in a joint effort with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on selecting surgical candidates for CMC VAMC.
• Responsible for managing the full spectrum of surgical care responsibilities including admission from an outpatient site, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, consultation for patients presenting with vascular surgery issues and diseases and the performance of invasive and surgical procedures. To manage the surgical care of patients the following will be necessary: ordering appropriate lab work, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, requesting consultations to specialty services, providing both office-based and operating room based invasive procedures.
• All work activities, both administrative in nature and clinical, will be in conformance with VA, Joint Commission, and other standards as applicable that guide that provider's practice.
• The physician will work in a team setting with other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff assigned to perform duties to accomplish the treatment of veteran patients.
• Computer skills are essential as the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center is fully computerized for note documentation, entering orders and requesting consults.

• Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.

• Demonstrate leadership and participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
• Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff

• Contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, and actively participate in patient safety initiatives.
