Major Duties:

MAJOR DUTIES: As a general Park Ranger, you will respond to medical emergencies, be a part of the park's search and rescue cadre to the level of your training and may participate in the park's wildland fire program (if red carded). You interact with visitors in the field and in an office environment, providing information on Leave No Trace ethics, park regulations, wildlife encounters, and general area information. As relationships with outside agencies is critical to operational success, you will help to maintain positive work relationships with local communities, user groups, local and state law enforcement and emergency services, and other resource/cultural based land management agencies. You will provide medical care at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level parkwide. You will perform a wide range of duties, including emergency medical services (EMS):

• Operate ambulances and other emergency vehicles in a safe and skilled manner.
• Maintains EMS and rescue equipment in a response-ready state and regularly performs related work projects as assigned during daily shift.
• Performs patient care in a variety of rugged environments involving lifting, moving and carrying for extended periods with exposure to extremes in temperature and uneven terrain.

The Cemetery Caretaker performs jobs requiring mainly manual skills and physical strength. Performs a variety of tasks, such as operating small tractors and riding lawn mowers; transplanting shrubs; digging graves to the proper level; cutting and removing sod, tamping and leveling dirt using hand and power tools; digging and squaring graves using pneumatic equipment, picks and shovels; assisting in lifting and placing caskets on lowering devices; loading and unloading materials; aligning headstones; cleaning and clearing cemetery grounds of debris using power trimmers, chainsaws, axes, shovels, rakes, blowers, vacuums etc.; weeding, mulching, and applying fertilizer; pruning shrubs and low level dead branches; removing snow and ice; cleaning headstones using sprayer and hand brush; and cleaning service and administrative areas.

Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. The incumbent has full time responsibility for providing expert pharmacotherapy services to optimize patient response and resource utilization for professional staff. The incumbent carries out the following duties and responsibilities;

Duties include but not limited to:

• Works independently under a scope of practice, after the establishment of a working diagnosis of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary hypertension, among others and initial treatment plan by the patient's provider(s) and in accordance with accepted standards of practice or the pharmacologic management guidelines established by local, VISN-8 and National committees.
• Unique functions requiring the individual to maintain a scope of practice:
  • Primary provider for extending medication therapy until next medical appointment, when patients are out of medications (limited to non-controlled substances).

• Setting up equipment for all phlebotomy procedures, making sure that all phlebotomy and ancillary equipment is functioning to standard
• Maintaining the laboratory facilities and equipment and controls supplies, and laboratory stock and orders materials
• Conducting work according to Laboratory Safety Regulations and instructing coworkers and graduate students on safety policies and procedures
• Maintaining and controlling laboratory records and presenting the data to the supervisor in a logical and systematic fashion
• Recording information pertaining to the storage of specimens or reagents and completing appropriate tracking/inventory system information
• Performing all clerical duties required of the position, including work lists, logs, and pending lists
• Providing orientation/training in performance of phlebotomy and test procedures
• Performing venipunctures in accordance with facility and laboratory policies and procedures
• Assuring all test tubes are labeled accurately when performing venipuncture using facility and laboratory designated patient identifiers
• Verifying correct patient identification, performing proper specimen handling and labeling, accessioning specimens, checking that lab test requests are consistent with physician orders, generating labels and sorts labeled specimens to be distributed to specific laboratory sections
• Performing work in the testing and examination procedures carried out in the laboratory
• Performing the full range of routine and emergency waived testing procedures such as glucose monitoring, urine pregnancy, occult blood testing
• Performs urine drug testing collections in accordance with facility and laboratory policies and procedures
• Selecting, performing, evaluating and monitoring the performance of test procedures both manually and on testing equipment
• Ensuring safe and non-traumatic processes are used with critical concern for the donor and for the quality of the specimen while using standard aseptic procedures and safeguards
• Preparing slides, smears, cultures, etc., of extremely delicate or otherwise volatile specimens
• Using a high degree of laboratory expertise to determine the validity of results and the potential causes for invalid results
• Performing other related duties as assigned
