As a Supervisory Environmental Engineer GS-819-15, you will:
- Conceive, plan, organize, direct, and control, professional and technical engineering services and long-range programs and projects required to identify, evaluate, and control environmental hazards at the NIH due to physical, chemical, and biological materials.
- Evaluate, manage, and control general solid waste, hazardous wastes, medical/ pathological wastes (MPW), and mixed low level radioactive wastes generated at NIH.
- Conduct surveillance and analytical procedures to characterize potential environmental impact and develop necessary specialized equipment, technical systems and programs, and service contracts to comply with Federal, State, and local environmental, hazardous, and solid waste laws and regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
- Serve as the primary manager for the NIH NEPA compliance program, performing assessments and making recommendations on Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and the final records of decision.
- Provide leadership and expert advice and consultation on environmental protection and enhancement issues to the Director, ORF and to NIH senior management and policy committees.
- Oversee and direct contract operations and coordinate the contract efforts within the DEP. Meet personally with professional staff of major contractors, visits contract facilities, reviews progress, and provides guidance to the DEP staff as part of the staff review on the technical efficiency and operational effectiveness of contract activities.
- Represent the DEP, ORF, and NIH in meetings and conferences with senior officials and representatives of other Federal agencies and private sector organizations as necessary, in order to plan, manage, coordinate, and oversee the programs and functions of the DEP.
A current Professional Engineering license OR current registration as a Professional Architect in any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico is preferred.
