Location: Oldham, Greater Manchester (with occasional travel across the UK)

Company Overview:
A well-established main contractor based in Oldham, specializing in refurbishments and fit-outs across the education, healthcare, and commercial sectors. The company works on a diverse range of projects, with a focus on public sector works including schools, universities, hospitals, and government buildings. Their portfolio ranges from smaller works around £50K to large-scale refurbishments up to £5M.

They are now looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team, with a strong commercial background to support the company's growth, especially in the local council sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
Contractual Management:
Lead on contractual obligations and ensure all terms are adhered to, managing all contract documentation and correspondence.
Commercial Awareness & Value Engineering:
Apply strong commercial acumen to maximise project value, manage costs, and identify value engineering opportunities to improve project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Claims Management:
Oversee and manage any claims or variations, negotiating with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve disputes in a timely manner.
Project Cost Control:
Monitor and control project budgets, including preparing cost estimates and final accounts. Although there will be some estimating duties, the role is primarily focused on cost management rather than detailed estimation.
Client Liaison:
Work closely with clients, ensuring communication is maintained throughout the project lifecycle and that the projects are delivered within scope, time, and budget.
Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and manage project risk by identifying and mitigating potential issues.
Travel Requirements:
While the majority of projects are based within the North West, you will be required to travel occasionally to other locations across the UK, including for site visits and meetings.

Requirements:
Experience:
Significant experience in a Quantity Surveyor role, ideally with a background in main contracting and working on refurbishment and fit-out projects. Experience in the education, healthcare, and public sector is highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong commercial and contractual awareness, with the ability to navigate complex contract details, manage claims, and implement value engineering strategies.

Qualifications:
A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying is preferred, although not essential if you have proven experience in a similar role.
Driving License:
A full, clean UK driving license is essential for this role, as the role will require occasional travel to various sites.
Location Flexibility:
Based in the Oldham area or nearby, with the ability to travel across the North West and further afield for site visits and client meetings.
Desirable Attributes:
Ability to understand and address the potential impact of projects on local communities, particularly for public sector works.
Proactive in identifying cost-saving opportunities and resolving issues before they escalate.
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage relationships with both clients and subcontractors.
A background in managing Government-funded works and refurbishments is highly beneficial.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented Senior Safety Consultant who is experienced in the production of radiological safety assessments to join our team and helps us deliver some of the UKs most cutting-edge nuclear projects.

NNL are at the forefront of nuclear research & development in the UK and beyond with a wide range of projects that require creative safety support. Our projects cover a wide range including Advanced Modular Reactors, Advanced Fuels, support to Springfields fuels Ltd, advanced separation techniques, Space Batteries, robotics and operational support of our facilities. We are keen to receive applications from anyone with experience in supporting safety cases and is interested in supporting projects such as these. If you are able to show a track record of leading the technical delivery of projects, the ability to work as part of a team to deliver the right safety case for the project and have the integrity to ensure that the outcome is safe and fit for purpose then a role in NNL might be right for you.

The team you will join is a dedicated, hard-working group who are passionate about the work they do. We support working flexibly, can accommodate homeworking, and can be flexible about location, although some travel will be necessary, to support business needs.

The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Preston, Risley or Sellafield.

Main Responsibilities for Senior Safety Consultant:

• You can provide expert knowledge of radiological safety assessment because you are up to date with developments in methodology and approach.
• You can lead technical delivery of radiological safety assessments.
• You are experienced in providing SQEP safety support to multi-disciplinary teams addressing safety challenges, including support and development of junior colleagues.
• You can manage and maintain the relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• You can provide support to bids for new work.
• You will use your creativity and initiative to develop new capabilities through innovative approaches including the technical lead on complex R&D projects and submissions.
• You will be interested in developing team skills for radiological safety through mentoring and supervision. You can design and deliver specialist Radiological safety training within the team and across NNL.
• You have membership of relevant national industry group(s).

Essential Criteria for Senior Safety Consultant:

• Degree qualified or equivalent level of demonstrable technical capability.
• Extensive experience in production of Radiological safety assessments across a variety of projects.
• Excellent level of knowledge in the specialised field of Radiological safety assessment.
• Proven ability to act independently, under own initiative, while supervising other members of the team.
• Strong communication skills, including multi-site working.
• Excellent teamworking skills, with ability to inspire the work of a team.
• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Senior Safety Consultant:

• Detailed knowledge of advanced assessment techniques.
• Experienced in mentoring and developing technical skills.
• Preferably Chartered Membership of a professional institution.
• Excellent networking skills, maintaining network across the Radiological field nationally.
