This position is located in the Operational Services Bureau, Special Operations Division (SOD), United States Capitol Police (USCP).  Serves as an Operations Support Assistant at the Division level within a Bureau or an Office. Performs a broad range of technical and administrative office support work and services to support sworn and civilian staff. Provides human resources support services, automation/computer support, records maintenance, report/information consolidation and similar functions.  Performs a range of support operational activities including monitoring and analyzing workflow issues and projects in consultation with supervisors and/or senior officials. At the full performance level of CP-06/GS-08, the duties include:

Prepares, maintains, and certifies automated Time and Attendance reports and monitors leave balances using the WorkBrain system.  Provides assistance and/or information to officials and officers with overtime requests, leave requests, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) applications, Paid Parental applications, pay certification, payroll corrections, workers' compensation paperwork, requests for advance leave, requests for leave without pay, and similar services as requested. Serves as the organization's liaison for office support services.

Organizes and maintains office files, records, manuals and related materials in accordance with established policies and procedures. Serves as an assistant for the PDAS and CoS in dealing with a wide variety of high-level offices both inside and outside of the Department. Such offices include but are not limited to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary, other Under Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries, OMB staff, and, Veterans' groups, or other special interest or professional groups. • Supervises children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities and on field trips, outings, and special events.

As a Staff Assistant GS-0301-11, you will be responsible for:

This position is within the Health Administration Service at the Truman VA Medical Center in Columbia, Mo, which is a Complexity Level 1c facility.

The Health Benefits Assistant receives and processes applicants for admission and outpatient treatment. Schedule appointments, determine eligibility and route patients applying for care. Assign admitting patients to wards and notifies wards of pending admissions and verifies information is correct. Primary duty is to interview Veterans, or their designated representative, in order to collect demographic information relative to their finances, insurance, address, work history, etc. This information serves as a basis for determining entitlement to medical care as well as bill preparation and collections on billable episodes of inpatient and outpatient care.
