About the Role

SSEN Transmissions Pathway to 2030 programme is one of the biggest investment programmes in the north of Scotland for almost a century. This £20bn programme will help unlock cleaner, more secure energy for generations to come.

As a result of our continued growth, we have a unique opportunity for a Chief Network Engineer who will be responsible for developing technical specifications and standards, assuring network design and quality and driving technical innovation. This is a key leadership role in ensuring the existing c£5b Transmission network can operate safely and reliably and ensuring that the annual £600m+ construction programme has the necessary technical support for design and construction purposes.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

* Technical and Design Authority for SSEN Transmission, ensuring all plant and equipment used on the transmission network is assessed as fit for purpose against relevant standards and providing independent verification that engineering designs produced by project teams comply with end-user expectations and specifications and meet statutory and regulatory requirements.

* Leading a team of specialized engineering staff to provide technical and design assurance to all Transmission functions and to create, monitor and amend the technical specifications for all plant, apparatus and equipment employed on the system. You'll also lead the National HVDC Centre at Cumbernauld, the UKs only national facility for HVDC simulation and development.

* Responsible for the oversight of technical quality across the asset lifecycle including factory and site acceptance and contractor technical quality performance during project delivery, commissioning, and operation. Ensuring technical quality by developing an internal technical quality and supply chain quality management system, introducing internal customer quality management systems.

* Facilitating strong engineering and technical communities across the business.

* Working with internal and external stakeholders to review, assess and approve innovative technologies for use on the network, ensuring that where technology changes are proposed that they are fully evaluated, and risks and opportunities understood.

* Deputising for the Director of Asset Management and Operations as and when required.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role you should:

* Be a Chartered Electrical Engineer and fellow of (or working towards) The IET or other institution.

* Have extensive experience in engineering roles related to power system networks and experience in large capital project planning and delivery.

* Be experienced in leading and developing large teams of engineering and technical staff.

* Demonstrate the ability to understand and challenge complex engineering concepts across a wide range of engineering disciplines.

* Have the ability to collaborate with key technical stakeholders including academia, OEMs and project partners and actively participate, challenge, and approve technical designs and proposals.

Essential Functions:

• Ensure the proficient operation and maintenance of all building systems including but not limited to HVAC, water treatment program, electrical, lighting, plumbing, carpentry and building/energy and management systems, ensuring all systems are maintained in first class condition

• Assist with managing all aspects of the facility maintenance operations and initiatives for a portfolio of buildings as assigned

• Monitor maintenance schedules including preventive maintenance, demand work orders, and risk management/fire safety.  Produce monthly status reports for the Property Management Staff including recommendations for improvements or modifications to schedules.Manage Angus Anywhere preventative maintenance, loss control and service call programs.  Monitor and manage work productivity through service call and preventative maintenance call program reporting

• Conduct periodic inspection and audits to confirm compliance with operations and maintenance programs including: service call programs, preventative maintenance, loss control prevention activities, safety programs, hazardous materials, OSHA compliance, water treatment and record keeping

• Assist Engineering and Property Management to develop scope and bid engineering related services or CAPEX projects

• Represent Property Management at tenant and Construction Department meetings as necessary

• Ensure compliance of all code required testing and maintenance of building systems, including NFPA 92, Ashrae 188, ACM O&M requirements and Arc Flash policy

• Maintain and refine a documented preventative maintenance and service call program for all building systems

• Organize and maintain comprehensive files consisting of operations and maintenance manuals, blueprints (tenant and base building), loss prevention activities, safety training, material safety data and other pertinent documents

• Regularly inspect all MEP machinery/equipment and rooms as well as other work areas to ensure good housekeeping and safe working conditions.  Produce monthly report on conditions of same

• MEP and building/energy management related input for annual operating budgets and 5-year capital plans for each asset

• Review tenant and base building renovation/development plans and specifications, providing comments relating to design problems or conflicts to existing building systems or structures

• Monitor all contracted maintenance, repair and construction activities for conformance to established building policies and standards. Inform Account Director of all defective or nonconforming conditions

• Provide suggestions and/or plans to improve the operating or energy efficiency of building systems

• Review emergency operational procedures including OSHA with staff such as equipment changeover, isolation of electrical and water systems, power outages, and other department-wide emergency procedures

• Respond to building emergencies and provide back up support to other Lead Engineers

• Ensure building standards are maintained as established

• Review logs daily and coordinate necessary action plan if needed

• Responsible for the overall direction, setting priorities and coordination of engineering staff at assigned site

• Coordinate and manage all energy star related programs

• Other duties as assigned, and needed at the assigned property

Non-Essential Functions:

• Assist in the technical training and upgrading of skills of less qualified staff

• Pursue employee development objectives recommended by the Account Director

• Assist in the administration of the properties impairment and loss prevention program

• Participate in C&W Safety Committee

Requirements and Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent certification required. College Degree preferred

• A minimum of 10 years of operational experience required with 5 or more years in a leadership position

• Accredited technical school, military, or college certification in HVAC and/or Operating Engineering Technologies and/or equivalent job related training and experience required

• Universal CFC certification required

• Continuing education in field

• Advanced working knowledge of Building Automation Systems, Microsoft Windows, Excel and Lotus Notes knowledge

• Strong technical and problem solving abilities

• Ability to work independently

• Ability to organize and coordinate work efficiently, set priorities and motivate others

• Familiarity with OSHA, NEC, NFC and life safety codes
