Your new role: Assistant Quantity Surveyor
We are expanding our commercial management team to support National Highways' annual £1bn investment programme to maintain the Strategic Road Network. As part of this, we have exciting opportunities for Assistant Quantity Surveyors to join our team.
You will support (and in some cases lead) commercial and contract management of schemes of value from £1m to more than £30m. The complex nature and diversity of the portfolio ensures the opportunity for you to develop new skills and capabilities, whether you are working towards gaining Chartered Surveyor status, or simply seeking to enhance your experience to date.
The role will be primarily based in our Bedford office with a requirement to attend other NH Offices / Site when required. In all cases we have a flexible hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of office/agile home working with a general expectation of office working at least 2 days per week.
What you'll be leading on
- Supply Chain management including sending enquiry documentation, quotation assessment, work order award and instructions to supply chain where required. Supply Chain Payment assessment including all relevant documentation on a monthly basis.
- Assisting in the management of site level change control including early warning and compensation event management and assessment, both to the Client and to the supply chain as necessary.
- Monitor actual cost against targets.
- Manage own portfolio of works under supervision from QS/ SQS.
- Liaising with other departments to ensure that Schemes Tracker is up-to-date, data is accurate and reconciled against other sources.
- Maintain collaborative working relationship with supply chain contractors.
To be successful you'll need
- To have either achieved or be working towards a degree/HND in Quantity Surveying or other relevant technical qualification and/or completion of a formally recognised graduate programme, apprenticeship or similar. Alternatively, you will be working towards a Chartered qualification within a relevant professional organisation, such as RICS, ICES, or equivalent.
- Basic experience of contract administration, desirably using NEC forms of contract.
- Intermediate level MS Excel (basic formula, pivot tables, formatting).
- You will have good written and verbal communication skills enabling you to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of commercial management.
