Training and Qualification information

Our Trainee Mental Health Practitioner positions training starts in January 2025. This is split with 2.5 days a week for academic work (teaching and personal study), and 2.5 days based at the service seeing clients related to training assignments.

You will attend UCL (London's Global University) and work towards a UCL Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Practitioner.

Whilst on assignment you will work within a multidisciplinary team, being responsible for supporting development and embedding services in educational settings.

You will either need a minimum second-class bachelor's degree (or equivalent in a relevant subject), OR if you do not hold the academic criteria but you have relevant professional experience, we would love to hear from you.

Please note: you will be trained in how to adapt interventions, but you will need a good level of experience in offering CBT informed assessments and interventions as this is not taught.

You need to be ready to start with us in January as the course begins on 20 January 2024.

The government has announced new funding to support current smokers to quit smoking, with £70 million additional funding per year for local authority-led stop smoking services (SSS) and support.

West Sussex County Council Public Health (WSCC PH) will be receiving approximately £1.075 million for 2024/25, ring-fenced for smoking cessation. Although the exact amount for each subsequent year is yet to be determined, this funding will continue until 2028/29.

We are seeking multiple Smoking Cessation Advisors to join the team. You will be a key member of the in-house smoking cessation service, supporting individuals to quit smoking tobacco. This will include providing support in a variety of different ways, including via telephone and face to face, in a range of venues including community settings and workplaces.

Salary: £30,296 to £33,024 per annum (£12,118 to £13,209 per annum, pro rata)

As a Smoking Cessation Advisor, the support you provide will include the facilitation of a range of smoking cessation medications, including e-cigarettes, combined with appropriate behavioural support to enable residents to stop smoking tobacco. You will manage your own case load of clients and support in triaging new clients into the service. You will also be responsible for following up with clients at certain periods and supporting those who may have relapsed.

Broader areas of your role include supporting service promotion and working to reduce smoking prevalence with key groups.

As a Social Worker within the Serious Youth Violence, Missing and Exploitation team, you will be working to deliver first class support to vulnerable children and young people. As a Leaving Care Housing Support Worker, you will be engaging with our care leavers who are homeless or at risk, to support them to explore the options available to them. You will provide intensive support to help them to prioritise their housing needs and ensure they understand their housing options and the best matches that will offer them a good housing pathway.

The support you will provide to our care leavers will be practical and may involve attending meetings, helping with budgeting, as well as understanding how they are better equipped to maintain a tenancy and address their homelessness difficulties.

In this role you will work collaboratively alongside our Personal Advisors, as well as external agencies such as housing providers, substance misuse, adult social care, mental health workers and probation services to address the issues that are increasing care leavers risks of homelessness.

Whilst this work can be very rewarding, it can also be emotionally demanding, for example, involving significant work dealing with vulnerable young people who can have complex needs. The role could also involve exposure to challenging behaviour from our young people who access our services.

As an Advanced Assessment Officer, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including Occupational Therapists and Social Workers. The ACP2 team is the access point to Adult Social Care in West Sussex. The team's key role is to undertake an initial telephone Care Act (2014) Assessment.

This is a great opportunity for you to join us as an Assistant Care Manager in our Safeguarding Hub. You will act alongside our social work Team and health care colleagues responsible for delivering a statutory social work service to adults in the locality of West Sussex.

Safeguarding Hub:

• act as single point of contact for all safeguarding adults' referrals
• carry out the initial triaging and decision making for safeguarding referrals
• carry out risk assessments
• agree and initiate initial safeguarding plans
• work in partnership with other agencies including police, service providers, housing and so on in relation to managing risk
• provide support and expertise to Adults' Services and partner agencies in relation to statutory safeguarding duties and processes.

The team cover the whole of West Sussex and receive referrals from a wide range of sources, including:

• members of the public
• concerned family and friends of a resident
• the police
• the ambulance service
• health colleagues
• care homes
• other care providers.

We have a great opportunity to join our supportive Safeguarding Adults Hub as an Advanced Assistant Care Manager.

Workers within the Safeguarding Hub make decisions about whether referrals need to be taken forward as safeguarding concerns or enquiries, or whether another route is more appropriate, for example, an assessment of the person's social care needs.

A priority for the team is to ensure the person being referred is kept central to the decision-making process. This means seeking their views, or the views of those close to them in terms of what they would like to achieve from the process. As part of the decision making process you'll also be considering individual's mental capacity to make a decision and possibly involving an advocate to support them through the safeguarding adults process.

As with all our teams, partnership and collaborative working is a vital aspect of decision making and the hub have close links with Sussex Police, the ambulance service, Care Quality Commission and health services. They also work closely with hospital and community teams, both in terms of referring people on after the initial triage and planning and also acting as a point of contact for safeguarding advice and guidance. They also frequently support other areas of Adults' Services and less experienced workers.

This newly created role combines making rapid, robust decisions regarding safeguarding referrals as well as utilising your skills and knowledge to use data analysis to support the running and the development of the team. You will also be leading on induction of new staff as well as developing and delivering presentations regarding safeguarding adults work to a range of different audiences.

Qualifications and/or experience:
* GCSE English and Maths or equivalent qualification or experience operating at this level of literacy and numeracy.
* NVQ Level 3 in Care - Desirable
* Experience of providing support and/or working with people in a social care environment.
* Experience of forming effective working relationships within a multi-agency setting.
* Experience of working with data analysis systems to produce high quality reports for the service.
* Experience of developing effective induction programs and mentoring new staff.
* Experience of developing and delivering presentations
* An awareness of the policies, practices and procedures relevant to social work. Experience of the assessment and review process of care packages.
* Experience of applying relevant legislation, policies and procedures to individual pieces of work.
