The Housekeeping Aid (HKA) - Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as a HKA-EVS Technician means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.

As a HKA-EVS Technician, you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties. Veterans rely on the skills of these professionals to keep patient areas clean and safe by addressing spills quickly, discarding trash, installing light bulbs in halls and rooms, and vacuuming and polishing floors.

Major Duties:
The Program Support Assistant (MHV) will assist in providing critical, timely and effective communication in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs On-line Personal Health Record, My HealtheVet (MHV), Social Networking Media and Secure Messaging (SM) components. You will serve as the facility champion supporting existing and future veteran communication initiatives. You will execute local program implementation, providing training and outreach to Veterans and their families with the goal of optimizing Veterans' healthcare management.

Outreach: Promotes the use of MyHealtheVet (MHV) by advertising the program, promoting MHV through interaction with Veterans and with employees, and attending community events. The incumbent conducts extensive communications with Veterans in person, telephonically, over email, and by letter to comply with technical requirements, program parameters, national and local policies, and assist with enrollment outreach efforts. The incumbent will assist with My HealtheVet enrollment drives in the community, at town halls, at new patient orientation, and nursing homes. The incumbent also serves as a Marketing and Advertising representative knowledgeable about MHV and will assist Veterans with general enrollment and use issues consistent with written guidelines and policy. The incumbent completes face-to-face communications, training, demonstration of MHV uses with Veterans, family members, and employees. The incumbent assists Veterans for enrollment, authenticates accounts, and demonstrates the platform functionality and uses with the Veteran, family members, and employees. Demonstrates this technology such as secure messaging, remote monitoring, medication refills, medical record management. Verifies qualifications and credentials of Veterans enrolling onto the MHV web portal including authentication and online patient education resource sites both on the local intranet page and the Internet. Training: The MHV Assistant participates in New Employee Orientation and New Patient Orientation and is a Subject Matter Expert for all MHV related activities. On a day-to-day basis, the MHV Assistant trains employees on MHV and Secure Messaging and adds them to the MHV system. Incumbent acts as the local "help desk" for both employees and Veterans who have operational questions regarding MHV, educates patients on the
benefits of MHV, system enrollment, and navigation.

Administration: The incumbent promotes organizational efficiencies and productivity gains with respect to use of this program. Works with various services within the organization to ensure that My HealtheVet is promoted. Visits various health care points of care to discuss program objectives and promote participation. Explains operating details of the program and available benefits which may be expected. Responds to questions presented in person, via letters and phone calls. The incumbent monitors program participation and use, completes reports on enrollment, account status, and
messaging trends in response to escalation expectations. Collect, develop, and document data for facility operational decisions. The MHV Assistant monitors kiosk functionality, use, and related areas of concern. • Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture) and specimen collection on patients, centrifugation, splitting specimens into aliquots, and separation of components and ensure they are transported to the lab for processing.
• Prepares and administers prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and performs treatments according to established policies/procedures.
• Observes for physical and/or emotional changes in patient's condition from prescribed medications/treatments, promptly and accurately documenting noted changes, and reporting any deviations from normal to the RN and/or/MD/DO.
• Promotes the incorporation of current patient care data in actively contributing to the development of the patient's overall health plan and in carrying out assigned nursing interventions.
• Promptly recognizes urgent or emergent patient care situations, seeks assistance from the registered nurse and or physician provider for appropriate team intervention and effectively intervenes, as directed to ensure optimal safe and therapeutic patient care delivery.
• Assist at front desk to facilitate timely assessment by interviewing and screening patients, addressing administrative and clinical concerns.
• Utilize data bases (i.e., almanac, VSSC, SAIL) for population care management to support the team with improving patient care outcomes.

Duties to include but not limited to:
Conduct psychosocial assessments and make psychosocial diagnoses.
- Conduct mental health assessments and provide psychotherapy for the
amelioration of mental health conditions.
- Develop psychosocial treatment plans with attention to age specific
needs/concerns.
- Provide psychosocial interventions for individuals, groups and families.
- Utilize standardized instruments in the assessment of mental health conditions.
- Provide individual and group counseling.
- Provide marital and family counseling.
- Develop information and referral resources and services.
- Develop community linkages and coordinate the clinical application of community
services.
- Provide admission and discharge planning services.
- Provide care management and coordination services.
- Document in computerized medical record.
- Provide Veteran advocacy/Veteran rights services.
- Provide psychosocial crisis intervention services, with adherence to High Risk
protocol.
- Provide Veteran and family education services.
- Screen for substance abuse, tobacco use, depression, suicide risk, post-
- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), domestic violence/interpersonal violence, complete risk assessments, and provide treatment services.
- Screen for homelessness in Veterans and address housing needs.
- Provide education on advanced care planning, including assistance with
advance directive documents.
- Complete any additional screenings, as required.
- Place and complete consults.
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and formulate psychosocial
diagnoses utilizing a differential diagnostic scale.
- Conduct mental health assessment and make DSM diagnoses.
- Provide consultation to colleagues; render professional opinions based on
experience and expertise.
- Develop new models of psychosocial assessment or intervention and incorporate
complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment.
- Utilize outcome evaluations to further treatment and design system changes
Teach and mentor staff and students in the specialty area of practice to provide
supervision for licensure of for specialty certifications, to include but not limited to in-service education & continuing education presentations.
- Provide subject matter consultation to care line managers, colleagues and
students on Social Work qualification standards, practice standards,
competency, productivity and continuing education.
- Provide clinical supervision to those seeking advanced licensure based upon
state regulations.

• Provides direct nursing care to Veterans in a variety of healthcare settings.
• Demonstrating knowledge to provide a full range of practical nursing care to Veterans with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
• Documenting care provided, observations and responses on appropriate tools or forms.
• Observing changes in Veteran's condition (e.g. behavior shifts, mood changes, skin coloring, appetite, medication side effects etc.)
• Administering medications, stoma care (e.g. tracheotomy, suctioning, colostomy), enemas, skin care, simple dressing, braces and prosthetic devices. Monitors intake and output according to established policy and procedure.
• Reinforces medication education and age related healthcare education to residents in relations to common disease processes, medications, and/or prescribed treatment regimes.
• Participates in the interdisciplinary treatment team meeting process, including sharing observations and Veteran's responses to interventions.
• Maintains stock levels of supplies and medications.
