1. 1. To provide medical input to unit. During working hours the specialty doctor has responsibility for initial clinical assessment and decision making in relation to section 136 and 135 assessments. 2. This will include assessment and examination and where necessary appropriate investigations for all clients. Patients suffering from significant medical illness are transferred to an acute Hospital, often Kings College Hospital, also at Denmark Hill. 3. The doctor would assess under the Mental Health Act for admission either alone or as part of a full Mental Health Act assessment. 4. The doctor is responsible for record keeping including documentation of assessment and communication/ liaison with other agencies including primary care. 5. The doctor will support the wider staff team at the CPOS. There will be opportunities to contribute to clinical governance, and formal and informal teaching. 6. The doctor would be expected to be available to work 10 clinical sessions on the unit. The doctor will be able to take regular time for professional development as agreed with the team Consultant Psychiatrist. 7. The post holder will be expected to provide high quality care to patients in the Paediatric Intensive Care, and to provide outreach services to children at risk of deterioration in the inpatient paediatric areas at St Marys Hospital. They will also contribute to the research, teaching and training activities on the Intensive Care unit, including providing educational and clinical supervision. The post holder will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of Interventional Chronic Pain and will undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility which relates to Interventional Chronic Pain. CLINICAL 1.1. Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service 1.2. Assess clients for suitability for CBT. Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and as part of the nursing team structure, assists in the provision of high quality patient care in all areas of the department. This will include the following tasks: Preparation of patients for treatment by professionally qualified staff. This will involve escorting the patient to the treatment area and assisting them to undress as needed, providing a gown and identification bracelet. Ensuring Trust policy is followed in relation to property and valuables. Provision of personal hygiene, mobilisation, nutritional needs and general comfort of the patient. Assisting the registered nurse in providing care for the deceased With the support and supervision of the Registered Nurse, undertakes the following and reports all findings to Registered Nurse for review and signature; Undertake baseline observations i.e. Blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, blood glucose monitoring and oxygen saturations. Perform urinalysis and pregnancy testing and report findings to requesting practitioner Provide plastering/immobilisation of uncomplicated fractures and limb injuries, ensuring the Registered Nurse observes the patient prior to discharge Perform venepuncture and cannulation, for blood sampling. Utilising near patient testing facilities as appropriate and requesting specified investigations via Trust computer system. Access diagnostic test results and report to requesting practitioner Facilitate patient flow within the department through liaison with ward staff and escort patients to wards or other departments as directed by the Registered Nurse. Team Working and Communication The post holder will: Communicate daily with patients, relatives and carers to ensure that they are informed of nursing goals and medical objectives and are involved in decision-making.
