You will be spending your time with our client within their own home where you will be supporting with their daily routine. Come spend the day times with me 8:30-4:30 Mon – Fri Who I am Hi I am a 7 year old boy who is smart and loves his cuddles. I like listening to stories especially if you make them sensory and use props and toys. I like my iPad and I learn a lot from watching shows like Topsy and Tim. I can nod yes and shake my head for no If I am on your lap. If I am tired I will sometimes double blink for yes instead. I love music and find this can be calming on days when I am a little more dystonic than usual. I can sometimes be sensitive to sounds so some days you have to be a little mindful of noises. Narrate to me what you are doing and what is happening and I will be a far more contented boy. Teach me things, different words, different animals – this keeps me active when my body can’t be! The only time I am sad is when I have constipation or wind. Please vent my tube to see if that helps. In those moments I just need cuddles, maybe to be upright on your lap or in a foetus position in my bed with lots of cushions around me. I love visits from my dad and grandma (they live across the road) as I enjoy their cuddles. I have two big brothers – one lives away at University but is my personal hair dresser and the other one plays me guitar - he is very good! I have a dog and she is very calm but if you don’t like dogs she can go and play at my dads across the road during your shift. My mummy runs a great business that helps children like me get movement lessons that help my brain learn! You will really enjoy taking me there for lessons. I attend a school in Kingston, sometimes I can’t go because I am not well and my secretions build up so the long car journey is not good for me – so I need you to sometimes be a teacher at home for me as I want to keep learning and growing and developing! The kind of nurse I am looking for: Will medically keep me safe but keep me developing cognitively as I know so much! Be someone who loves to suction and keep my airway clear. She should be very in tune when I need a suction. It is important she does not panic, sometimes my airway gets blocked and I can lose colour and go grey/ blue – all I need is a position change, cough assist or suction – deep one ! and sometimes in the nose to keep me nice and clear. A nurse who can peg feed. I have a mix of blended and a milk feed. A nurse who gives me lots of love and cuddles, talks to me, reads to me, enjoys music. A nurse who is aware and in tune with what I need when I need it. A nurse who will realise if I need my own space just to be quiet she will recognise this – equally if I need some educational fun she will be creative to come up with a new way for me to learn things. My vocabulary knowledge is strong even though my mobility is very limited. I can’t wait to meet you! Your day to day activities will include: • Peg Feeding • Oral Suctioning • Oxygen Therapy •Medication Administration • Cough Assist About you You must be a qualified Nurse, and hold current NMC registration.
